DAYS Next Generation: Why Stephanie Johnson Reminds Us of Jennifer

Some Days of our Lives characters are just a chip off the old block when it comes to their parents. Others take after other members of their families, and still others bring to mind folks to whom they’re not blood related at all. Stephanie Johnson is Jennifer Rose Horton Deveraux’s niece — by marriage, but she reminds us enough of Jenn to think of Stephanie as her next-generation successor. Here’s why.

Stephanie Johnson: Off You Go

Jennifer (Melissa Reeves) was born onscreen and we saw her around Salem as a tot. Remember the time she wandered out of the house, climbed into the back of a strange truck (a totally normal thing for a child to do) — and ended up in another state? But then, she and her parents, Laura and Bill, moved out of town, and we didn’t see Jenn again until she was a runaway teen.

Stephanie (Abigail Klein) was born in Salem too. Soon after, Papa Steve (Stephan Nichols) “died” and her mom, Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) had a very weird, thankfully brief fling with her uncle Shane (Charles Shaughnessy). Then, Stephanie left town, not to be seen again until she was grown.

Lover Girls

Everyone loved Jennifer. Frankie, Emilio, Brandon, Patrick, Daniel, Eric (Greg Vaughan). And, that’s not counting the men who married her — more than once: Lawrence, Peter, and, of course, the love of her life, Jack (Matthew Ashford).

Stephanie hasn’t lived in Salem nearly as long as her aunt but, at the moment, she is living with Chad (Billy Flynn), being longed for by exes Everett (Blake Berris) AND Alex (Robert Scott Wilson). Should we be anticipating three more decades of Stephanie being the object of everyone’s affection who can do no wrong? Is that something the viewers would like to see?

Written In the Stars

It also stands to mention the gal’s choices in careers. Both are powerhouse players and taking on big tasks in a small town. Jennifer was all about running the paper and Stephanie is all about running PR for the paper. Sure, it’s not exactly the same, but close enough.

Similar stories, similar love triangle plot lines, and similar jobs. Could it be that Stephanie is the new Jennifer? Guess we’ll have to wait and see!
