Do you know how many Days of our Lives have passed since John Black and Steve even thought about their DAYS as The Pawn…and The Pawn’s Keeper. About 40 years worth, that’s how many. They’re both different people now. Steve is no longer a thug, but a respected member of the Salem community. And John…John has been so many people. He’s been an Alamain, a DiMera, a Brady, a priest, and now he’s an offspring of Dick Van Dyke. The last thing John wants is to think about — much less deal with — his time as an anonymous killer. What a shame Konstantin isn’t about to let the only upper hand he has drop.
Getting the Job Done
Konstantin (John Kapelos) may want to bring John (Drake Hogestyn) and Steve (Stephen Nichols) down using the intel he thinks he has on them. But, the fact is, the man isn’t a very effective villain. He can’t even pass off a store-bought tablecloth as something homemade in Greece. It’s impossible to believe he is capable of outsmarting Black Patch.
Both Ends Against the Middle
Konstantin may not be able to outsmart both of them. But could he outsmart one of them? Could Konstantin turn John against Steve (he sure implied he knew something here), or Steve against John, and get them to destroy — or at least undermine — the other? If he can play just one of his victims, they might finish the job for him with the other.
Knowledge Is Power
Then again, we really don’t know what exactly John Black was doing during The Pawn years. And if Konstantin does — and if it’s as dangerous as Konstantin keeps hinting, then he may not need to destroy John and Steve. The truth could do it for him. Heck, John merely finding out what he is guilty of — not to mention the knowledge that Steve kept it from him for four decades — could send him spiraling with Konstantin doing nothing more than filling him in.
