Could This Be The Real & Final Backstory For DAYS’ John Black?

Days of our Lives seems to be telling viewers it’s time for yet another “Who John Black REALLY Is” story. As of now, we know he isn’t Roman Brady. Though he thought he was. He isn’t Forrest Alamain. Though he thought he was. And he isn’t a Brady/DiMera, which he thought he was. He’s the son of some Korean war vet now. And just guess who the John Doe being played by Dick Van Dyke is.

If John Doe is the same age as his portrayer, then he is 97(!) years old. If John Black (Drake Hogestyn) is the same age as his portrayer, then he is 69. So the ages work. And John might as well be anyone. He’s already been everyone. So here is the childhood we’ve discovered he missed out on.

John Black: Watch Out

John’s dad was a sitcom writer who worked in a Manhattan office with wisecracking pals. His mom was a cool housewife who wore Capri slacks and pearls to vacuum. She could sing, dance, and couldn’t keep herself from snooping. That’s how they ended up with a blow-up rowboat in their living room. John’s original name is Ritchie Petrie. His middle name is Rosebud. And there is a long story about how it ended up that way. He also tends to be attacked by woodpeckers and once sang a very, very off-key version of “The Little Drummer Boy” on national television.

So where did this idyllic childhood go wrong? Well, first RitchieJohn’s mom moved to Minneapolis to work at a local television station for a cranky boss who hates spunk. And then his dad dumped the TV business to go to medical school. Perhaps that’s when he misplaced his son? He lost his memory and thought he was Dr. Mark Sloan. And picked up a completely different kid. Maybe the accident that gave him amnesia also bonked his little boy on the head? We finally have an answer for how John became John!
