To General Hospital fans, Steve Burton will always be their beloved Jason Morgan. But did you know the actor actually broke into the daytime medium 35 years ago, when he was cast as high school student Harris Michaels on Days of our Lives? It was a short-term, three-month role that was over barely after it had begun.
Surprisingly, Harris resurfaced on Season 2 of Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem in 2022. Here’s a refresher course on the character.
Harris Michaels first appeared in Salem in 1988 as a student at Salem High School. He was a classmate of teenager Eve Donovan, an ex-hooker. Harris and some of his friends made a bet to see who could bed Eve first.
After taking Eve out on a few dates, Harris began to have genuine feelings for her. Unfortunately, Eve found out about the bet her new beau had made with his friends and was devastated. She swallowed a bottle of sleeping pills and tried to kill herself. Harris was beside himself and tried to talk things out with Eve, but she wasn’t interested in his apologies. Shortly after the incident, Harris left town.
In 2022, Harris surprisingly turned up as the new man Hope (Kristian Alfonso) was dating on Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem. Ciara (Victoria Konefal) sensed something was off about her mom’s beau upon meeting him and just didn’t trust him. She was adamantly against their relationship.
It turned out Ciara’s instincts were spot on. Harris was Megan Hathaway’s hired henchman. She’d ordered him to date her longtime nemesis, Hope, kidnap John (Drake Hogestyn) and Steve (Stephen Nichols), and help her retrieve the magical three prisms.
Eventually, Harris proposed marriage to Hope, which irked Megan, who believed he’d fallen for his mark. At the couple’s wedding, Megan ordered Thomas Banks to assassinate the bride. Hope “died” and went to heaven, where she reunited with her late husband, Bo (Peter Reckell). Realizing it wasn’t Hope’s time, Bo struck a deal to have her return to the land of the living.
Hope returned to earth, where things played out differently. Harris ended up shot by Thomas’s bullet. Then Harris trained a gun on Hope, but he couldn’t bring himself to pull the trigger. He ended up arrested, and Hope later visited him in jail. Harris professed his love to Hope and his theory that Megan had brainwashed him. Hope left him to face the consequences of his duplicitous actions.
