A Critic’s Review Of DAYS: Salem Justice And Contentious Conversations

When it comes to Days of our Lives, every fan has their own opinion –- and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review and a cheeky critique of the Days of our Lives week that was.

Days of our Lives: The Critic’s POV

We’re one week deep into 2024 and bearing witness to material penned by interim writers. So far, I’m not impressed.

The mockery being made of the Salem justice system where Tate (Jamie Martin Mann) is concerned is downright farcical — and not in a good way. (Relive it here.)

Ava (Tamara Braun) can pick up a phone, chat with a Dom (and there’s never been a Dom in the Vatili crew; there’s been a Martino, an Angelo, an Eddie, Luca, Carmine, and Jimmy, but never a Dom), and exact a promise that all of Clyde Weston’s (James Read) tainted drugs off the street, but she can’t, you know, get him to make Clyde a distant memory? HUH?!

And despite Alex (Robert Scott Wilson) and Justin (Wally Kurth) bridging the gap between them previously, the scripters are now going out of their way to estrange the two because…why? They want me to regret naming the former Most Improved Character (which I did in my annual Best and Worst Roundup)? To paint Alex as a villain? To drum up yet more artificial drama as they build towards the inevitable reveal that it’s really Xander (Paul Telfer) whom Victor sired?

But most unforgivable of all — the show is boring. Uneventful and uninspiring. Talk, talk, talk, talk, talk. Thank goodness for diversions like Sloan (Jessica Serfaty) and Leo (Greg Rikaart). At least their contentions convos remain bitingly delicious.

Further DAYS Musings

* Was it just me, or did Officer McCauley (Morgan Bradley) actually seem a competent member of the Salem police force? I suppose there had to be one.

* What are the odds that someone, anyone will inform Maggie (Suzanne Rogers) that her granddaughter is languishing in a coma? And why didn’t Abe (James Reynolds) immediately flock to Nicole’s side upon hearing of Holly’s (Ashley Puzemis) plight? He might not remember the history that they share, but he himself has admitted that he feels a paternal connection to her in his heart.
