A Critic’s Review Of Days of our Lives: Warm Fuzzies & Progressive

When it comes to Days of our Lives, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of the Days of our Lives week that was.

Days of our Lives: The Critic’s POV

I wasn’t exactly complimentary of Days of our Lives in my last column — and, truth be told, I haven’t been as enamored with the soap as I once was in quite some time…but this week certainly served to, if nothing else, up my interest factor.

Shawn (Brandon Beemer) taking a card out of Belle’s (Martha Madison) playbook of bedding another took me by surprise, and with six little words — namely, “Oh, Kristen. I already knew that.” — Ron Carlivati righted a terrible wrong that had been done to catalyst extraordinaire Gwen Rizczech. Excuse me, make that Gwen Rizczech DiMera (Emily O’Brien).

Timothy’s (Special Guest Star Dick Van Dyke) introduction to his brand-new, ready-made family gave me the “warm fuzzies” that I’ve been clamoring for from soaps for quite some time, and I was pleased as punch over Johnny (Carson Boatman) and Chanel’s (Raven Bowens) reunion.

And you’re looking at one of Lousie Sorel’s biggest fans here, so I’m thrilled with her (no doubt momentary) triumph over those pesky, do-gooding peons. (Heroes coming together and overcoming adversity is one of my most favorite tropes so you’d better believe that I’m chomping at the bit to see how the Kiriakis’s exorcise the she-devil from their midst.)

Further DAYS Musings

* Why can I say about Carly and Jason *ahem* I mean Ava (Tamara Braun) and Harris (Steve Burton) and their mission to trek about London in search of Susan (Stacy Haiduk) except that I hope this particular plot is wrapped toot sweet and ends with Susan back where she belongs — and that’s in Edmund Crumb’s arms. Sorry, Roger.

* While I adored Timothy reacting to the increasingly unfathomable tales told by John (Drake Hogestyn) and co. as if they were the most logical thing he’d ever heard, by far my favorite exchange was the one between Timothy and Paul:

Paul: Dad even came and visited last year in San Franciso for Gay Pride.
Timothy: Oh, Gay Pride. Are you a —
Paul: A gay? Yes.
Timothy: I got that. I was going to ask if you were married.

Funny and heartwarmingly progressive without being preachy,
