When it comes to Days of our Lives, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of the Days of our Lives week that was.
On the one hand, I very much appreciate Days of our Lives going to the trouble of arranging an episode that paid tribute to Suzanne Rogers and the half-century she’s spent playing Maggie Horton Kiriakis. On the other hand, would it have hurt to have the entire episode devoted to the character?
And how I wish the curated flashbacks had been a mite more varied. Of course, fans expected to see such clips as Maggie and Mickey’s first meeting and the gifting of the red shoes, and the myriad of weddings, but how about some deep cuts?
Where were the scenes that won Rogers her Daytime Emmy? How about something from the time when Maggie was struggling to come to terms with her myasthenia gravis diagnosis or when Maggie was dallying with Neil Curtis? Couldn’t we have gotten another scene to illustrate Maggie and Julie’s inviable kinship other than Maggie’s saving her niece from that grease fire that has been shown ad nauseam these past few years?
Quibbles aside, kudos for what Rogers got, and three cheers for the talented lady’s continued employment. Here’s to 50 more! [Hey, a superfan can dream, can’t he?]
* Praise to TPTB for remembering Victor’s (John Aniston) past, warts and all. It’s been gratifying to see the show honor the character [and his late, great portrayer] without minimizing his dark deeds.
* Ron Carlivati and co. really need to address to start/stop/start/stop feel that so many of DAYS storylines have as well as the failure to pick up certain cliffhangers and instead letting the plot point dangle. For example, how do you end Thursday’s airshow with the shock that is Abe’s (James Reynolds) intent to name Paulina (Jackée Harry) his successor and not follow up on Friday?
Speaking of Abe, I’m trying to feel sorry for him, I really am, but his attitude since returning home has certainly rubbed me the wrong way — and how could he expect to get away without doing a modicum of homework prior to crashing that press conference?
* The Bonnie (Judi Evans) that was present in Maggie’s memories — you know, the brash and sassy Bonnie — can we get that Bonnie back, please? I’m tired of watching the Adriene-lite stranger that’s appearing on my screen.
