A Critic’s Review Of Days of our Lives: Rooting Value, Bluster & Karma

When it comes to Days of our Lives, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of the Days of our Lives week that was.

Days of our Lives: The Critic’s POV

Days of our Lives is desperately lacking in the overarching villain department (I miss Megan, so shoot me!), and vile, despicable, and absolutely devoid of all rooting value Clyde Weston (James Read) just isn’t cutting it.

And no matter what Ron Carlivati and Co. will do to convince me otherwise, there is no way that Ava “Freakin'” Vitali (Tamara Braun) would submit to living under the Kentucky Fried Godfather’s thumb.

As Clyde himself pointed out, she’s the former head of a Philly-based mafia family. All it should take is one phone call and her problem is solved via shiv. And if nothing else, haven’t the writers ever heard the old saying “the enemy of my enemy is my friend”? Just imagine the fun that could be wrung from having Ava, Harris (Steve Burton), and EJ (Dan Feuerriegel) team up to bring Clyde down.

Further DAYS Musings

* Abe to John: I’m falling back in love with my wife, but I want a divorce. Make it make sense!

* Am I the only one who remembers a time when Lucas (Bryan Dattilo) had some real honest-to-goodness smarts and was just as ruthless and underhanded as any DiMera, Kiriakis, and Sami Brady (Alison Sweeney)? Sad sack, all bluster and no bite Lucas just isn’t cutting it for me.

* Armchair Dialogue:

Kate: So, I mean, I just have to wonder, even though I know that I did the very best I could to try to get them through some difficult times, was there more that I could have done for my now adult children when they were kids to make life easy for them now?
Marlena: Well Kate, you could have tried not taking your abusive, scumbag ex’s word for it that they were dead and left them to a childhood full of beatings and/or molestation. That, for starters.

* Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t Talia (Aketra Sevillian) still on probation? Surely, she owed her probation officer a heads-up that she was skipping town.

* Given that Kristen DiMera (Stacy Haiduk), of all people, was awarded full custody of her daughter, is really so peculiar to think that the same could happen to Xander (Paul Telfer)? At this point, I wouldn’t mind seeing Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) be made to suffer for her insufferable acts. You know what they say about karma.

* Line(s) Of The Week:

Gabi: Rachel is a DiMera, okay? And in this family, kidnapping is, like, a rite of passage. Like a quinceanera.

* Plot Point I Can Live Without: The Vivian/Philip redux that is Kristen and Christopher *ahem* I mean Tate (Jamie Martin Mann).

* The wheelchair and scrubs I get. But where, exactly, did Leo (Greg Rikaart) find the wig that completed his escape ensemble?

And instead of standing at the Nurses’ Hub and discussing the pros and cons of adhering to hospital policy, wouldn’t it have behooved Rafe (Galen Gering) and Jada (Elia Cantu) to remain in Dimitri’s (Peter Porte) room? Their decision was as equally contrived as Clyde’s henchmen being able to snag Tripp (Lucas Adams) as his attending.
