A Critic’s Review Of Days of our Lives: Paltry Milestone, Snickers & Score

When it comes to Days of our Lives, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of the Days of our Lives week that was.

Days of our Lives: The Critic’s POV

Don’t call it a tribute. How can TPTB at Days of our Lives [I’m looking at you Ron Carlivati and Ken Corday!] justify commemorating Deidre Hall’s milestone 5,000th episode with the inclusion of a few paltry scenes within a regular broadcast episode rather than dedicating an entire hour to the majesty that is Marlena Evans Black?

Even if they insisted on adhering to the [ridiculously] jokey wrap-around premise that Marlena had treated around 5,000 patients, there was still a ton of material they could have spotlighted. But no.

No Don Craig (Jed Allan). [Remember how they first met sparring over her treatment of Mickey?]. No flashbacks to Mar Mar’s days as an on-air therapist [who wouldn’t have loved to see highlights from the episodes in which the Salem Strangler called in and sent a chill down the hostess’s spine?]. Nor the time — make that times — that Doc Evans found herself an unwitting, unwilling patient at Bayview Sanitarium.

And how could they bypass the opportunity to recall Marlena and John’s first meeting — back when John wasn’t played by Drake Hogestyn and his visage was wrapped completely in bandages.

It was honestly a disgrace. A real slap in the face of an iconic actress, an even more iconic character, and the fans who adore them both.

Further DAYS Musings

* Breakfast item I never want to hear mentioned again: biscuits.

What do you think? Post a comment!

* Gabi (Camila Banus) and Stefan’s (Brandon Barash) juvenile antics are still, for the most part, grating, but I’ll be darned if EJ’s (Dan Feuerriegel) phone-throwing tantrum didn’t tickle me.

* I have to say that I was really rather impressed with the decision to have Sloan (Jessica Serfaty) put Colin (Jasper Newman) on both blast and notice. That’s growth, positive growth. But not too much growth as to completely neuter the character.

* I think somebody had better remind Carlivati and Suzanne Rogers that she’s supposed to be playing Maggie Horton Kiriakis and not Alexis Many Last Names from Dynasty.

* Nicole (Arianne Zucker) and Anna (Leann Hunley)? Bosom Buddies? Yea, they’re really growing on me.

* So let me get this straight. Xander (Paul Telfer) is paying Chloe’s (Nadia Bjorlin) half of the rent on their new place and he bought her a brand-new mattress to sleep on and Chloe intends to pay him back by…doing nothing at all? She won’t cook, she won’t clean, or even shop for the groceries? Does that actually seem fair to anyone?
