A Critic’s Review Of Days of our Lives: Nonsense, Entertainment & Disbelief

When it comes to Days of our Lives, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review and a cheeky critique of the Days of our Lives week that was.

Days of our Lives: The Critic’s POV

I don’t mind a little nonsense in my stories — as long as the nonsensical nature of the storylines entertain. Leo (Greg Rikaart) and Dimitri (Peter Porte) holing up in a motel within walking distance of Horton Town Square, and their ability to be one (okay, five) step(s) ahead of Harris (Steve Burton) — a susceptible to brainwashing ex-NAVY SEAL turned detective — and Jada (Elia Cantu) is, I’ll grant you, wholly ridiculous. But at least it is ridiculously fun. Stupid fun. Harmless fun.

But Stefan (Brandon Barash), Gabi (Camila Banus), and Brady (Eric Martsolf) conspiring to make it appear that Kristen (Stacy Haiduk) is abusing Rachel (Finley Rose Slater)? Where’s the fun in that? Where’s the entertainment value?

Further DAYS Musings

* Granted, Thomas (Carey Christopher) and Charlotte are “beautifully behaved,” but that’s all down to Jack (Matthew Ashford) and Jennifer (sometimes Melissa Reeves, sometimes Cady McClain), and Julie (Susan Seaforth Hayes) and Doug (Bill Hayes). You know, the people who have actually reared them; the people who actually remember they exist. Chad’s (Billy Flynn) involvement with the pair has been negligible at best.

* I love how Maggie (Suzanne Rogers) gets a pass for her underhanded, shady behavior just because she’s Maggie. As if she didn’t rightfully deserve Xander’s (Paul Telfer) condemnation.

* Just when it seemed as though Chad and Stephanie’s (Abigail Klein) Rebecca-lite storyline had reached its natural conclusion, the writers had to go and introduce a new wrinkle in the form of Blake Berris’s new character, Everett.

* What’s with the narrative that Stephanie and Joey grew up together, as if she wasn’t born nearly two decades before him and already a leading lady onscreen?
