A Critic’s Review Of Days of our Lives: Miracles, Controversy & Blame

When it comes to Days of our Lives, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of the Days of our Lives week that was.

Days of our Lives: A Critic’s Personal Highlight

We need to talk about Nicole Walker (Arianne Zucker). I have still yet to fathom how this woman had the nerve, the unmitigated gall to go to another femme and complain that it was hard to rear the miracle baby that she was gifted. What even was that? Hard to stomach, that’s what.

Equally hard to stomach is the premise that Days of our Lives will actually allow Jada Hunter (Elia Cantu) to go through with her plans to terminate her pregnancy. Soaps haven’t purposefully courted controversy in years, and I sadly don’t see them gearing up to do so any time soon, especially with a topic as devised as abortion — and to be frank, the last time DAYS tackled the subject they botched it but good; Mimi Lockhart did undergo the procedure, but she subsequently developed a pelvic-inflammatory disease which was believed to have rendered her barren; punishing a woman for making a choice concerning her own body is never a good look.

Further DAYS Musings

* How is it that no other character but “Charlie Dale” remembers EJ DiMera’s (Dan Feuerriegel) past as a race car driver, and why does that fact tickle me so?

* Hmmm…I’d never thought of it this way before, but is Johnny DiMera’s (Carson Boatman) empathizing and sympathizing with and lusting after Ava Vitali (Tamara Braun) the cause of his family’s recent misfortune? Or are we still laying the blame at the feet of big bad-jerk EJ?

* Li is all kinds of awful, but who can’t relate to this:

Gabi: “You should have shoved that pie right in her face.”
Rafe: “Well, I did throw it in the trash.”
Gabi: “Good!”
Li: “Wait, there’s no pie? Okay, I get there’s no pie, but now there’s no dessert…at all?”

* Now that Chanel Dupree (Raven Bowens) is behind bars, shouldn’t Sloan Petersen (Jessica Serfaty) be concentrating her efforts on bringing Paulina Price Carver (Jackée Harry) down? After all, as Abe Carver (James Reynolds) pointedly pointed out, his wife participated in (read: engineered) a coverup. Aren’t their laws about that sort of thing?

* Okay, so Alexander Neil Kiriakis (Robert Scott Wilson) thinks of Jo Johnson as his grandmother but not Adrienne Johnson (Judi Evans) as his mother nor Stephanie Johnson (Abigail Klein) as his cousin? Does any of that track?
