A Critic’s Review Of Days of our Lives: Melodrama & For The Love Of Soaps

When it comes to Days of our Lives, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of the Days of our Lives week that was.

Days of our Lives: The Critic’s POV

While I am an admitted lover of the melodramatic and the macabre, Monday’s episode is the true reason I watch soap operas. The relatable familial dynamics, and the quiet loaded moments. If only there had been more of it.

More Hortons and Carvers and friends who have become like family. Actual scenes of the characters gathered in the town square for the Juneteenth celebration. Reactions from the assemblage to speech Theo (Cameron Johnson) made.

It wasn’t perfect, but it was great for what it was.

I’ll also admit to deriving a thrill from Leo (Greg Rikaart) and Megan’s (Miranda Wilson) delicious interplay and hearing Justin (Wally Kurth) recall the Hell that troublesome Anjelica Deveraux (played by actresses Jane Elliot, Shelley Taylor Morgan, Judith Chapman, and Morgan Fairchild, respectively) put him through.

What continues to irk me is Maggie’s (Suzanne Rogers) out-of-character behavior. Never before has she been so hard to root for, and I’m including that time she cheated on poor Mickey. #JusticeForAlex.

Further DAYS Musings

* And here I thought Shawn (Brandon Beemer) might finally have come to his senses after self-assuredly declaring to Megan that he would choose to shoot Bo (Peter Reckell) again as it had been the right decision in the moment [not true, but okay], but I was clearly wrong. Apparently, it’s going to take more than an epiphany had during a tete-a-tete with a sociopath to sort him out.

* File this one under Things You Never Expected To Hear But Now Can’t Unhear. Bonnie to Sarah: “Xander’s PORKING Chloe Lane!”

* I know, and you know that Whitley (Kim Coles) isn’t who she says she is, but Abe (James Reynolds) doesn’t so I can’t help but wonder why he’s treating the woman like absolute trash.

* Kudos to Rex (Kyle Lowder) for not taking advantage of Sarah’s (Linsey Godfrey) obviously heightened emotional state.

* Try as I might, I just can’t quite get behind a Stephanie (Abigail Klein)/Chad (Billy Flynn) pairing.
