A Critic’s Review Of Days of our Lives: Glory Days & Family Squabbles

When it comes to Days of our Lives, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of the Days of our Lives week that was.

Days of our Lives: The Critic’s POV

This might be a most unpopular opinion, but I wasn’t much moved by Chloe (Nadia Bjorlin) and Brady’s (Eric Martsolf) parting.

For quite some time now I’ve found watching the actors trying in vain to recapture the glory days of “Broe” a chore, so I actually appreciated the writers putting their much-maligned relationship to rest.

Further DAYS Musings

* I get it. Harris is (Steve Burton) bad, everybody else in Greece — including Shawn (Brandon Beemer) who shot to grievously wound rather than disarm — good.

* Now that Nicole (Arianne Zucker) is pregnant with a child that could be either EJ’s (Dan Feuerriegel) or Eric’s (Greg Vaughan), I’m hoping that the intrigue at DiMera House — particularly the backbiting/infighting between EJ and Nicole and Stefan (Brandon Barash) and Gabi (Camila Banus) — will take on a decidedly more mature vibe rather than the adolescent histrionics we have been subjected to since the four began playing house.

I had high hopes for this setup, but so far I’ve been disappointed. Here was me expecting the same quality drama that was wrought when Anna (Leann Hunley) and Tony (Thaao Penghlis) and David (Gregg Marx) and Renée (Philece Sampler) were forced to cohabitate — or, if you happen to also be a fan of ABC’s General Hospital, think the snipping, snapping Quartermaines — and instead I’m given something what smacks of Beverly Hills 90210-esque hijinks.

* What a pity Jasper Newman’s Colin is such a loathsome, abusive, nonviable character. It would have been nice to see Jessica Serfaty’s Sloan bolstered with a bit of family to interact with rather than watch her single-minded vendetta against Paulina (Jackée Harry) and Chanel (Raven Bowens).

* When it comes to my soap operas, I’m a show me, don’t tell me kind of guy. I don’t want to hear from Alex (Robert Scott Wilson) that he’s going to therapy and getting a lot out of it, I want to see him and Marlena (Deidre Hall) in a session hammering out his issues.
