A Critic’s Review Of Days of our Lives: Frenemies, Shenanigans & Thrills

The author’s opinions on DAYS are his and his alone. They’re suitably scathing, fairly humorous, and normally bang on target.

When it comes to Days of our Lives, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of the Days of our Lives week that was.

Days of our Lives: The Critic’s POV

With all the present and accounted for DiMera’s [barring Chad and Dimitri, though I’m sure the latter will be moving in tout suite] under the same roof and jockeying for positions of power within the family company, Days of our Lives has my attention. [And I’d just like to add: Please come home, Peter! All is forgiven!]

I’m also thrilling to fast enemies Sloan (Jessica Serfaty) and Nicole (Arianne Zucker) evolving into frenemies. I didn’t see it coming, and I didn’t know I needed it until I did.

Where they’re losing me is with just about every other storyline on the canvas, from Colin/Talia to the love triangle between Johnny (Carson Boatman), Wendy (Victoria Grace), and Tripp (Lucas Adams) [which is playing out almost entirely offscreen and in incredibly skewed fashion given that Tripp isn’t even in the same vicinity as the other two] to Alex’s (Robert Scott Wilson) seemingly stalled work woes and Belle (Martha Madison) and Shawn’s (Brandon Beemer) estrangement.

At least I can say that I’m anxiously anticipating the shenanigans that could [and should] be generated from Chloe (Nadia Bjorlin) joining Xander (Paul Telfer), Gwen (Emily O’Brien), and Leo (Greg Rikaart) at The Spectator. The Mary Tyler Moore gang they won’t be, but they can provide entertainment nonetheless.

Further DAYS Musings

* The direction might have been lacking [and the “dramatic umph” mooted as a result] but damn if the climax of Colin’s (Jasper Newman) revenge didn’t provide a showcase for Raven Bowens [Chanel Dupree].

Days of our Lives airs weekdays on Peacock+ in the U.S. and The W Network or Global TV App in Canada. For more about what’s coming up in Salem, check out all the latest DAYS spoilers, and for an in-depth look at the show’s history, click here.
