A Critic’s Review Of Days of our Lives: Fake Outs And Parent Woes

When it comes to Days of our Lives, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review and a cheeky critique of the Days of our Lives week that was.

Days of our Lives: The Critic’s POV

Even though I spent a good portion of a previous column calling for a moratorium on fake outs, I can’t help but be thankful that Chad (Billy Flynn) making a complete asshat out of himself existed only in his mind. The character continues to grow more and more unappealing, and I can’t help but root for a Stephanie (Abigail Klein) and Everett (Blake Berris) reunion, which I’m pretty sure isn’t the writers’ intention.

Further DAYS Musings

* Boy, won’t Everett be surprised to learn of all the skeletons in Doug (Bill Hayes) and Julie’s (Susan Seaforth Hayes) closet? Embodiment of virtues my behind.

* How pat that Sloan (Jessica Serfaty) is now struggling to connect with and soothe the baby — in stark contrast to biological parent Eric (Greg Vaughan) — when they’ve already bonded in previous episodes.

* Given that he currently resides with the family, shouldn’t Abe (James Reynolds) have been well aware that Steve (Stephen Nichols) was out of town? And you mean to tell me that John (Drake Hogestyn) skipped out on spending what would have been his first Thanksgiving with his newly discovered father (who, let’s face it, may not be around for many more)?

Speaking of Abe, those scenes of him comforting “bonus daughter” Nicole (Arianne Zucker) in the hospital are what good soap is made of.

* While I could definitely get behind a Stefan/Ava team-up, I’m not loving this reinterpretation of the latter as some kind of victim of circumstance, a damsel in distress under the thumb of a Big Bad like Clyde Weston (James Read). Ava’s no heroine, nor is she a shrinking violet (as her recent murder of Gil can attest).

* Why, oh why, did Chad have to lead with a recap of how he felt in the aftermath of Abby’s murder when he could merely have related to EJ (Dan Feuerriegel) as a man who also lost a child? And not for nothing, but why hasn’t anyone, EJ and Nicole especially, addressed the fact that this now makes two babies that they’ve lost?
