When it comes to Days of our Lives, every fan has their own opinion –- and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review and a cheeky critique of the Days of our Lives week that was.
Days of our Lives: The Critic’s POV
It probably came as no surprise that a snafu delayed the inevitable outing of Sloan (Jessica Serfaty) coopting Nicole’s (Arianne Zucker) bundle of joy, but couldn’t the necessary contrivance have made just a little more sense?
Nicole seriously relied on a toothbrush preserving enough of her DNA to test against the baby’s rather than, oh, I don’t know, letting Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) swab her cheek much like she did Jude Roman? (review the details of this test here.) I’m all for the addition of artificial drama to elongate a storyline (the truth about Mike Horton’s paternity festered for close to a decade and featured blackmail, accidental manslaughter, amnesia, and the like to prolong the reveal), but it shouldn’t come at the expense of (just a modicum of) common sense. (As if Dr. Pierce couldn’t have gotten wind of the test, fiddled with the results, and then set about making Melinda’s [Tina Huang] life a living Hell by blackmailing her for more money.)
And the chosen impediment was particularly disappointing in light of the (hilarious) fact that University Hospital isn’t exactly the best regarding security and/or adhering to proper protocol.
Further DAYS Musings
* Kudos to the scriptwriters for the recent inclusion of little history nuggets like Eric’s namesake’s dark past and Arianna Hernandez’s war on drugs.
* Not that I’m complaining that Stephanie (Abigail Klein) and Chad (Billy Flynn) are “on a break” or however they’re defining their relationship’s status, but when, exactly, did Stephanie swing by Alex’s (Robert Scott Wilson) apartment to drop off her keys? Right in the middle of his and Theresa’s (Emily O’Brien) rendevous on the living room couch? Awkward!
* The Tate/Holly/Johnny/Chanel quad is giving me serious Austin/Sami/Austin/Carrie vibes, and that I appreciate.
* While Brandon Barash (Stefan DiMera) and Tamara Braun (Ava Vitali) have mad chemistry (both platonic and romantic) together, Barash is really starting to grate when on his lonesome. It’s getting harder and harder to remember that I used to be a big Stefan fan. Maybe it’s all the grouchy whining coupled with the empty threats?
