A Critic’s Review Of Days of our Lives: Couples-Go-Round & Cheeky Dialogue

The author’s opinions are his and his alone. They’re suitably scathing, fairly humorous, and normally bang on target.

Days of our Lives Critic's Review for November 28 – December 2, 2022
 Comments

When it comes to Days of our Lives, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of the Days of our Lives week that was.

Days of our Lives: A Critic’s Personal Highlight

It’s getting harder and harder to watch Days of our Lives, what with the plethora of characters, couples, and potential couples that have little to no rooting value.

Here I thought Johnny DiMera (Carson Boatman) and Wendy Shin (Victoria Grace) were being primed as DAYS’ next truth-seeking dynamic duo, and yet it took very little for them to fall in line with their scheming kin (here’s looking at you, Li Shin and Kristen DiMera). Sorry Stefan O. DiMera (Brandon Barash) and Gabi Hernandez (Camila Banus), your reunion will have to wait!

Xander Cook (Paul Telfer) and Sarah Cook (Linsey Godfrey) who seemed well on their way to becoming this generation’s Eugene and Calliope (John de Lancie and Arleen Sorkin) — if not daytime TV’s latest Nick and Nora Charles (William Powell and Myrna Loy) pastiche — are now poised for an inevitable estrangement once the truth about the former’s criminal mischief — not to mention his subterfuge — sees the light of day. Maybe Xander and Gwen Rizczech (Emily O’Brien) are endgame after all?

And after their latest fracas, can anyone out there say that they really want to see Nicole Walker Soon-To-No-Longer-Be-Hernandez (Arianne Zucker) and Eric Brady (Greg Vaughan) kiss and makeup? As for a potential Nicole/EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel) retread: no thank you!

And please, please, please tell me that Brady Black (Eric Martsolf) isn’t going to buy what Kristen (Stacy Haiduk) is selling. I know he’s stupid, but for the love of G-d…

Further DAYS Musings

* DAYS Premium Dialogue:

John (perusing Rachel’s Christmas List): Number one. A Dreamhouse for Granny Mar Mar doll.
Marlena: You know what? It’s okay if you just call me Grandma.
Rachel: Mommy said you like that name.
Marlena (deadpan): Mommy’s confused.

* “Equally hard to stomach is the premise that Days of our Lives will actually allow Jada Hunter (Elia Cantu) to go through with her plans to terminate her pregnancy.” I stand very much corrected.

* I could do with a whole lot more sparring between Belle Black Brady (Martha Madison) and Melinda Trask (Tina Huang). Madison and Huang are a hoot and a half.

* I won’t admit how long it took me to deduce that Rednax is ‘Xander’ spelled backward — and I may have even had a little help reaching said deduction, but I won’t admit that either! — but I did get there in the end. Well played Days of our Lives, well played.

* So, Paulina Price Carver (Jackée Harry) has been arrested for criminal conspiracy and obstruction of justice, but Sloan Petersen (Jessica Serfaty) who’s an admitted blackmailer is still walking free? Yea, that seems very apropos for Salem.
