When it comes to Days of our Lives, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of the Days of our Lives week that was.

Days of our Lives: A Critic’s Personal Lowlight

I’m sorry, but nobody at Days of our Lives is going to convince me that Chad DiMera (Billy Flynn) and Tony DiMera (Thaao Penghlis) wouldn’t attend Susan Banks’s (Stacy Haiduk) memorial service, especially in light of the two just a few weeks ago conversing about how poorly EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel) was coping in the wake of his mother’s passing.

Even Anna Fredricks DiMera (Leann Hunley), who has absolutely no use for EJ, would insist on being there given that EJ is her husband’s brother.

And just imagine how much more impactful Tripp Johnson’s (Lucas Adams) admonishment of EJ for kidnapping him rather than pony up the ransom demanded for Susan would have been with Chad, Tony, and Anna in attendance. It could lead to a coloring of Chad’s feelings for EJ — and not for the first time — and give Tony and Anna an actual storyline as Anna would no doubt deduce that Tony was well aware of what EJ did and didn’t confide in her.

Oh well, a fan of good soap opera can but dream.

Further DAYS Musings

* How’s Paulina Price Carver (Jackée Harry) coping in jail? How’s Abe Carver (James Reynolds) handling the onslaught of calls for his resignation? Have Allie Horton (Lindsay Arnold) — who really should have been by her TWIN BROTHER’S side during the memorial for his grandmother — and Chanel Dupree (Raven Bowens) resumed operating their business as usual? How’s Wendy Shin (Victoria Grace) doing with playing bridesmaid to the woman whom she’s keeping from the love of her life?

Apparently, only The Shadow knows, because nobody in the writers’ room saw fit to pick up any of those story threads.

* John Black (Drake Hogestyn) and Marlena Evans Black (Deidre Hall) working together to bring big bad Kirsten DiMera (Stacy Haiduk) down? Yes, please!

That said, the trip down memory lane undertaken by Kristen and John, coupled with EJ’s rebuke of Kristen when she came calling with sympathies for his loss for — among other sins — stealing him away from Susan and using him as a pawn to ensnare John, only serves to emphasize the issue with recasting a role with an actress nearly a decade younger than her predecessor, and the glaring issue that is Kristen’s obsession with Brady Black (Eric Martsolf) — she use to mother him when he was wee lad! Yuck!

* Though some probably found the scene hilarious, I couldn’t help but blanch and roll my eyes heavenward when Sister Mary Moria (Stacy Haiduk) broke out a ruler in order to rap Brady’s knuckles, especially given that Eileen Davidson, the actress who originated the role of the disciplinarian nun and who attended a parochial school, had fought so hard against such outdated stereotypes in the 1990s.
