Former Days of our Lives star Chrishell Stause and her pro partner Gleb Savchenko weren’t called safe until almost the very end of this week’s episode of Dancing With the Stars. It wasn’t just that she had scored higher in week two than she had in week one that gave her confidence. Rather, it was a higher power that supported her faith that everything was going to be okay.
Chrishell Stause: Princess Fantasy
“I truly did feel my [late] mom was with me when I was about to start the performance and when they were calling the eliminations,” says Stause, who was nominated for a Daytime Emmy earlier this year for Outstanding Guest Performer in a Drama Series for her role as Jordan on DAYS. “I had a calm with me the whole night. I know some people don’t believe it [spiritual matters], but I feel what’s meant to be is meant to be and what happens, happens.”
Savchenko, who shares a birthday with Stause’s mom, says he sensed something spiritual was going on with Stause when he came upon her shortly before their dance on Tuesday night. “I got there a little late and I saw her standing there and she was talking,” Savchenko says. “I said what are you doing? She said she was talking to her mom.”
“I asked my mom to be with me and calm me,” says Stause, who attributes her improved performance this week to both Savchenko and her late mother, who passed away in July of this year. “It was a special night and I feel great.”
Stause shares that one of Savchenko’s strict rules is that neither of them watch the video package that is aired for viewers at home. “Personally, I would think of course you watch it,” Stause shrugs. “But Gleb, from the beginning, was ‘We do not watch.’ He only has a few super-strict rules and this is one of them. He wants me to stay grounded and focused on not forgetting anything and being in the moment.”
“When you listen to [the video packages] you might get thrown off,” says Savchenko. “I prefer my partner to say focused. I say, ‘Listen, don’t watch. Keep it in the zone. Be with me. We’re the focus. We can watch the package later.’ To me, it’s most important to create that connection.”
Competing on Dancing With the Stars is all about the journey and improving along the way. Stause is right on track in that regard. During her first week, she and Savchenko scored a mere 13 points. In week two, they earned 18. “I’m so proud,” Stause says. “I didn’t want to let [Gleb] down. At the end of the day there were still things I wish I could have done better, but…I feel absolutely excited.”
Next week’s theme is Disney in which, traditionally, couples take on Disney movie characters and dance to a song from a Disney feature film. Stause says she has three favorite characters – Jasmine from Aladdin, Cinderella (from Cinderella), and Belle from Beauty & the Beast.
“They’re all amazing,” she says, revealing, “And I do have one of those three. Honestly, there’s no losing. They’re all iconic. I [am doing] an iconic princess and I can’t wait to bring her to the ballroom.”
