Days of our Lives fans are wondering how Doug Williams and Julie Williams can be so giddy to be celebrating Christmas with their beloved granddaughter, Ciara Brady Weston…and her husband, the mass murderer. Meanwhile, said mass murderer is apologizing to Abigail Deveraux DiMera…one of the murderer’s many victims.

But let’s back up a little, shall we? No one in that room – save, maybe Thomas and Charlotte – is as pure as the driven snow.
To start with, when fans first laid eyes on Doug Williams (Bill Hayes), he was in prison. A cellmate of Jennifer Horton’s (Melissa Reeves) father, Bill Horton (a rapist who ended up marrying his victim, Jennifer’s mother, Laura). So maybe Doug has some thoughts on the power of forgiveness.
Background Knowledge
And it is absolutely, positively 100% correct that Ben Weston (Robert Scott Wilson) did some horrible things to Abigail Deveraux (Marci Miller) when they were married in the Days of our Lives past. But he wasn’t in his right mind at the time.

Kind of the way that Abigail claims she wasn’t in her right mind when she killed Andre DiMera (Thaao Penghlis)…and let Gabi Hernandez (Camila Banus) take the blame for it.
Julie forgave Abigail in an instant. You know who Julie will never forgive? Gabi, who killed Julie’s nephew, Nick Fallon (another rapist), How has the Horton family kept their reputation for being saintly all these years…and we’re not even counting married into the family rapists like Jack Deveraux (Matthew Ashford). So maybe Julie isn’t as forgiving as Doug.
Forgive and Forget
Abigail and Chad DiMera (Billy Flynn) magnanimously allowed Ben to stick around for Christmas. They didn’t forgive him, mind you. They just want him to know they’re better than he is. Well, maybe next year they’ll be more in Uncle Doug’s generous spirit.
