Casey Moss Opens Up About DAYS Lull…And EXPLOSIVE New Storyline

After a long onscreen lull, Casey Moss (JJ) has been handed a poignant and powerful Days of our Lives (DOOL) storyline: a police officer who made a split-second decision to shoot his gun only to realize he made a tragic mistake.

“It’s what I signed up for, and I love it so much,” says Moss, whose JJ shot and severely wounded Theo (Kyler Pettis) after he fled cops. “I’m so glad I was given this story. It’s real, it’s relevant, and that’s what you want to do as an actor. You want to tell stories and you want to be relevant.”

Storyline Lull
As viewers know, it’s been a while since Moss was on the front burner, and he opens up about why.

“A lot of that was my fault,” admits Moss, candidly. “I went through a, I don’t give a f#@k period… [DAYS] put up with it… They just started slowly decreasing my storyline, decreasing my storyline.”

In retrospect, Moss is thankful to still be part of the show. And, eventually, he saw the light and made changes in his life.

Turning Things Around
“I just started [thinking], Why am I being a spoiled kid?” recounts Moss, who realized he was wasting a golden opportunity as a working actor on television.

“Here I [was] on a show. I booked it in six months. I [was] into the show for 2-1/2, 3 years and I just started f#*king it up. So I stepped my game up and was like, This is what I want to do.”

What inspired the turnaround? “Stopping drinking… no more partying,” shares Moss. “Thank you [to Days] for not letting me go. I was just given a chance.”

Moss has taken that chance and run with it, exploring the psyche of a police officer in the aftermath of a tragic shooting.

“JJ didn’t know it was Theo. He had no idea,” contends Moss. “When he found out, he was like, Wait. No. Something is wrong… JJ’s dealing with, ‘Did I lose the criminal and just decide to shoot someone?’ That’s all going through his head. First, it’s adrenaline, adrenaline, adrenaline. Then, you start questioning.

“He’s dealing with the whole, Am I incompetent at my job? Am I trigger happy? Am I mentally not all there?” continues Moss.

“It’s really heavy with all of that in your head. There are all those thoughts, all those questions. What do you think happens when it gets too busy to shut it up? I don’t know whether it’s drugs, whether it’s alcohol…What is a person to do?”

A New JJ
Dark days are clearly ahead for JJ, and it’s sure to cause some major changes in him.

“Because of this incident, you would expect for him to go into a hole,” says Moss. “But there are multiple instances that shape what’s going to happen to him.”

Moss’ reaction to tackling it all has been “good… ready to go. There’s a reason why actors make it in their late 20s, early 30s. You’ve been around. You’ve had enough conversations with people. You’ve been in enough situations where you can empathize with everyone around you. If you can’t empathize, you can’t be a good actor.”
