While Bryan Dattilo revealed he shot his last episode of Days of Our Lives (DOOL) last month, he’s been pretty mum on the subject since that tweet that tipped us off… until now.
“The job is so unpredictable, you know when you get your scripts two weeks in advance and you don’t know what the script’s going to say until you see it, and then when you see it, you’re like, ‘Wait a minute, where am I going? Why am I going there?'”
Such was the case for Dattilo regarding how he learned he was leaving the show he’s called home on and off for the last 25 years. While it was surprising for him, for others it was just another day.
“And then you walk into work and they’re like, ‘Oh yeah, it’s that time again, you know, you gotta go.’ So I was like, ‘All right.’ And so, I went,” he told Soap Hub before he burst out laughing.
It’s not like it’s the first time the actor has been through this. It’s not even the second or third.
“I said, ‘Honey, we have to arrange things differently right now. Daddy lost his job again for the seventh time,'” he recalled. Of course, the show had lost track.
“Actually, they were like, ‘Look I know it’s been like the fourth or fifth time,’ and I’m like, ‘Actually it’s seven but who’s keeping track.’ It doesn’t matter.”
Even after all of that, Dattilo has nothing but good feelings about his experience.
“I love the work, I love the place, it’s been an honor to be there as long as I have. To even have a 25-year career in soap operas is something I never thought I would have.”
While it can be a bit scary to not have a job, the actor is also excited about what the future can bring.
“The book is open. You can create a new road or decide to go a different route or reinvent yourself. As an actor, it’s kind of fun because you get to do that every couple of years. You have to give them a new version of you because people basically get sick of me,” he said with a laugh.
