Days of Our Lives, which returned to production at the beginning of last month, has announced a two-week shutdown due to an individual testing positive for COVID-19. This brief pause in production won’t affect what viewers see on air.
Deadline broke the news that Corday Productions, which co-produces the show with Sony Pictures TV, informed the cast, crew, and personnel news of the temporary shutdown. Taping is set to resume on Monday, October 26. The show has enough original programs in the can so the show will air without interruption.
The unnamed individual who received a positive result has been placed in isolation. Those who came into contact with the person are quarantining for 14 days.
During the temporary shutdown the show will deep clean and disinfect the production facilities. (While Deadline reports that the facilities for DAYS are on the Sony lot, DAYS actually tapes at the Burbank Studios, formerly NBC, in Burbank.)
Unlike The Bold and the Beautiful, General Hospital, and The Young and the Restless, which aired rebroadcasts over the summer of favorite episodes, DAYS had enough shows already produced so that it continued to air original programming.
Other shows that have taken pauses since production returned include For Life and Chicago Med. Ken Corday serves as DAYS’ executive producer. Albert Alarr is co-executive producer. Ron Carlivati is the show’s head writer. At the 2019 Daytime Emmys, DAYS swept the categories of Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Drama Series Writing Team, and Outstanding Drama Series Directing Team.
DAYS is set to celebrate its 56th anniversary on November 8, 2020. DAYS was created by Irna Phillips, Allan Chase, and Ted Corday. The show’s longest running cast members are Susan Seaforth Hayes (Julie), Bill Hayes (Doug), and Suzanne Rogers (Maggie). Less than a year into the show, Ted Corday passed away, passing the reins of the show to his wife, Mrs. Ted (Betty) Corday. The late William J. Bell became DAYS’ head writer. Within five years, he brought the show to No. 1 in the ratings. Days of Our Lives airs weekdays on NBC. Check local listings for air times.
