Last month, panic set in when NBC announced Megyn Kelly would be getting a new daytime show. Many wondered about the fate of Days of Our Lives with a new talk show coming to the network.
To make matters worse, a People Magazine story printed anonymous rumors that the soaps’ days were numbered, but that fear is alleviated as of today. DAYS has been renewed by NBC for another year, according to Soap Opera Digest.
It feels like a waiting game each winter as the soap only gets a year-to-year contract, but with a new head writer recently hired, many felt things weren’t as bleak for the 51-year-old drama.
“We feel so privileged to be able to continue the remarkable legacy of Days of Our Lives,” said Jennifer Salke, President, NBC Entertainment, in a statement. “We thank [Executive Producer] Ken Corday and his team for their incredible accomplishments and look forward to all the stories from Salem that will continue to unfold.”
Corday echoed Salke’s sentiments.
“It’s a great day in Salem! We’re pleased to announce that after more than 51 years in the hearts and homes of our amazing fans, Days of Our Lives will continue to be part of the NBC family.
We are grateful to our incredible network and longstanding partner Sony for their continued support, and we look forward to what the future will bring under the new creative direction of the show. I’m especially proud to be able to shepherd DAYS into the new season, continuing my parents’ dream and the show’s legacy.”
While it will take till summer to see the show head in a new direction due to its taping lead time, it looks like better DAYS ahead for Salem.
