On Days of Our Lives (DOOL), when Chad caught Stefan in bed with his wife, he pummeled his latest newfound brother to a pulp.
Stefan’s defense was that he wasn’t in bed with Chad’s (Billy Flynn) wife, Abigial (Marci Miller). Stefan (Tyler Christopher) was in bed with Abigail’s alternate personality, Gabby. They were just using Abigail’s body.
Since Stefan knew about Abigail’s mental illness, should he be considered a rapist? Should he go to jail for what he did? Over 11000 voted!
Throw the Book at Him!
For 86% of you, what Stefan did was definitely rape. It would have been one thing if he’d met ‘Gabby’ out of context, and not know that she – her body, at least – was his sister-in-law.
In that case, he would have been as much of a victim as anyone. If Stefan had fallen in love with Gabby away from Salem, that would have been different.
But Stefan knew exactly who she was, whom she was married to, and why she’d lost herself inside an alternate personality. Stefan took advantage and slept with a mentally ill woman who wasn’t capable of giving consent. That’s a crime. Worth going to jail for.
(Maybe, if they can get a conviction in Salem, Los Angeles will take a hint and try Quinn for all those months she kept an amnesiac Liam in her cabin and slept with him as his wife on The Bold and the Beautiful.)
Self Determination
Who is to say what’s a true personality, 14% of the audience gets philosophical. What makes Abigail anymore real than Gabby?
Maybe Gabby is who Abigail really is. And if Gabby is who Abigail really is, then Stefan is who she really wants. Chad is the one who should go to jail for beating him nearly to death. And Stefan and Gabby who should live happily ever after.
