While John was trying to save Steve’s life on Days of Our Lives (DOOL), he may have cost best friend and business partner what was left of his eyesight.

According to published reports, John (Drake Hogestyn) visits Steve (Stephen Nichols) in the hospital and while Steve understands exactly why John did what he did, Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) is still a little cool to the man she once thought was her brother.

But, that was a long time ago and now she’s just worried sick about the man she’s loved most of her adult life. And it looks like she has a very good reason. While Steve tries to make John feel better (in other words, less guilty), Kayla has a newsflash for both men.

It looks like his cornea was harmed by the poison and Steve could lose what’s left of his eyesight for good.

The news is almost as hard to take for John as it is for Steve, considering John blames himself for not having figured out another way to dupe Pamela VanDamme into thinking he was carrying out her wish that he kill Steve as part of her revenge plot.

Steve already lost one eye because of his previous best friend — Kayla’s brother Bo Brady (Peter Reckell). Now he may lose his sight completely because of another.

Needless to say, John will be devastated by the news and seek out Marlena (Deidre Hall) for comfort. While Doc has been known to work miracles, it’s hard to see if even she can alleviate the guilt overwhelming John at this point.

The only thing that could help out this close quad of pals would be if Steve makes a complete recovery. Unfortunately, at this point, that’s not looking like a strong possibility. Will these four friends ever be the same?

Days of our Lives (DOOL) airs weekdays on NBC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
