The strange obsession that Stefano had for Marlena on Days of Our Lives (DOOL) drove years of story… and something similar should do so again!
After all, the DiMeras have gotten a little soft with this new generation, and while that might be sweet in some ways, it’s not what Salem has come to expect from a family whose name was synonymous with evil.
Being driven to want what you can’t have is soap opera gold and while Stefan (Tyler Christopher) seems to have that for his brother’s wife, Abigail (Marci Miller), we can’t help but feel it’s not the right move.
In looking to the future, it’s always good to mine story from the past. Marlena has two biological daughters. Sami (Alison Sweeney) is never going to be back fulltime but Martha Madison, who plays her younger daughter Belle, could probably be lured to return full time, especially if the story is right.
Stefano’s (the late Joe Mascolo) interest in toying with the lives of Marlena (Deidre Hall) and John (Drake Hogestyn) was legendary, so it would make sense that their only biological child together should be driving a story that involves one of his kids, allowing the next generation to take Salem into the future… and DAYS, too.
While Stefan seems to be the obvious choice on the DiMera side, it could still be Chad (Billy Flynn) or even EJ, since Kristen alluded to the fact EJ is still alive during Eileen Davidson’s last stint on the show.
Belle is already working for DiMera as their legal counsel, brought on by Chad. She’s beautiful, smart, and it makes zero sense why she isn’t in Salem fulltime. Her daughter Claire (Olivia Rose Keegan) is still there, as are her parents and several half-siblings.
Not only that, she’s married to Shawn, son of the other long-loved supercouple Bo and Hope. While it’s nice that they’re back together, they’re more exciting either fighting to be together or just plain fighting.
While Keegan is gaining strength as an actress, she isn’t ready to lead her own story like Madison is. The show has done a great job with recent moves like putting good girl Ciara with bad boy Ben, much like her parents’ dynamic.
They could have had a great new charismatic villain with Deimos (Vincent Irizarry), but then they killed him off. It’s time to find someone else to carry that Stefano mantle and preferably one of his sons. Pairing him in scenes with Marlena’s daughter would bring everything full circle (and make for must-see TV).
Days of our Lives (DOOL) airs weekdays on NBC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
