On the April 8 episode of Days of our Lives, Tate confessed to Brady that he almost failed out of Salem University, and isn’t sure if he wants to go back for next fall. Brady told him that it was OK with him; lots of people are taking alternative paths these days. What Brady didn’t say was that, in Salem, no degree equaling professional success is the name of the game!

Key Takeaways

  • Tate doesn’t want a college degree.
  • Most of Salem doesn’t have a college degree.
  • Everyone in Salem is successful.

Just Another Brick in the Wall

Tate (Leo Howard) came to Salem because he’d been thrown out of yet another boarding school. Brady (Eric Martsolf) and Teresa (Emily O’Brien) greased some palms to cover up his property damage, and put Tate in public school, knowing they couldn’t expel him no matter what Tate pulled.

So why did they think he’d straighten up and fly right in college? Tate is lazy, unambitious, and prone to blaming other people for his own failures. That is not prime student material. So now he wants to drop out. It won’t do him any harm. Not in Salem, anyway.

The Corner Office

Maggie (Suzanne Rogers) didn’t go to college. And yet she is periodically the CEO of Titan. At least, in Maggie’s case, she has life experience. Johnny (Carson Boatman) and Theo (Tyler Joseph Andrews) don’t even have that. And yet they’ve both been appointed CEOs of DiMera. Mostly because they’re DiMeras.

Meanwhile, over at Titan, Ceara (Victoria Konafal) was an executive-in-training just because she was Victor’s (John Aniston) granddaughter.

Well, guess what? Tate is Victor’s great-grandson. So he is just as likely to be handed a cushy job. Honestly, college would just be a waste of time for him at this point.
