Is Andre Better As Villain Or Hero On Days of Our Lives (DOOL)?

The best soap opera characters aren’t any one thing, black or white, good or bad, hero or villain, and Andre is no exception.

Sure, there’s the remorseless killer, blackmailer, and all-around ne’er-do-well. But there is also the guy who was kind to Abigal (Marci Miller) — for his own reasons. And his relationship with Kate (Lauren Koslow) is… well, it’s complicated. But it’s not all bad.

So which version of Andre (Thaao Penghlis) do fans prefer? Almost 10,000 viewers weighed in on both sides of the issue.

Stuck In the Middle With You
As the witch sang in Into the Woods, “I’m not good, I’m not bad, I’m just right.” And that’s how you feel about Andre, with 44% preferring to see him as someone in between. Sometimes he does the right thing, sometimes he does the wrong thing.

You can’t predict which way he’ll swing in a given situation, and that’s what makes him fascinating to watch. More shades of grey, please!

We Need a Hero!
Step into the light, Andre, plead an almost equal 42%. You prefer Stefano’s (Joseph Mascolo) prodigal son to embrace the decency that’s buried deep… deep… very deep inside of him. You know he loves Kate and Abigail and Chad (Billy Flynn) and Thomas, which means he could be the good guy… if he’d just let himself be.

Dark and Dreary
But, then again, to paraphrase Mae West, when Andre is good, he’s good… but when he’s bad, he’s better, cackle the dissenting 13%. Salem is full of nice people doing nice things for nice reasons, and even more nice people doing not nice things for nice reasons. You want someone who embraces, nay, relishes being mean just for the heck of it.

While good guys suffer, bad guys thrive. And Andre was born to thrive. Never change, man. Never change.
