In the nearly 51-year history of Days of our Lives, we’ve seen an unreal amount of jaw-dropping moments that have left us wondering just what the show was thinking when it placed their lead characters in surprising situations.

Some of these scenarios range from the slightly strange others are downright ridiculous! Nonetheless, they definitely kept our interest.

Take a trip down memory lane and relive some 5 of DAYS’ most drop-your-jaw moments!

When Carly was buried alive by Vivian, fans held their collective breath to see if she would survive her ordeal.
  1. Vivian Buries Carly Alive (1993)

Vivian Alamain (Louise Sorel) hated Carly Manning (Crystal Chappell) with a burning passion because she wanted to keep Carly’s son, Nicholas. The hate was so strong that she attempted to frame the good doctor for the murder of several of her hospital patients. In her most unhinged stunt of all, Vivian used an herbal medicine to put Carly into a death-like coma. It was so convincing that Carly was considered dead and buried … but then she woke up underground in a coffin equipped with lights, an air tank, and a two-way speaker system. Vivian eventually confessed to her nephew, Lawrence (Michael Sabatino), and Carly was rescued just as she was running out of air.

  1. Marlena Is Possessed! (1995)

Satan had some fun in Salem when he took residence within the body of forever-heroine, Dr. Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall). The crazy storyline was full of special effects, including glowing yellow eyes, levitation, and morphing. It was over the top in the best possible way. In the storyline, Marlena went to Louisiana in search of John but was instead captured by Stefano DiMera (Joseph Mascolo), who forced her to call her husband, Roman Brady, and tell him that she was with John Black. Stefano began giving Marlena mind-altering drugs (and oddly making appearances in her bedroom via her armoire). It was soon revealed that she was possessed by the devil, with Stefano considering her his “Lady of the Night”. John Black, who was a priest at the time, was forced to perform an emergency exorcism months later.

  1. Falling In Love with Your Brother (1967)

In 1967, Tom Horton Jr.’s family thought he was killed in the Korean War. He later returned to Salem, having suffering from amnesia and with a reconstructed face. He believed his name was Dr. Mark Brooks. Mark later fell in love with his lab assistant, Marie Horton, not knowing she was his youngest sister! When Mark’s true identity was revealed, Marie was so upset by the turn of events that she left town and joined a convent.

  1. Bo Learns Shawn Brady Was Not His Father

Bo Brady had a supreme hatred for bad-to-the-bone villain Victor Kiriakis. He nearly shot him during a fancy Salem party in 1986. That was when the truth was revealed–Shawn Brady was not Bo’s biological father. Caroline Brady screamed at her son as he was ready to pull the trigger, “Bo, don’t shoot… he’s your father!” The room stopped and Bo broke down learning his arch enemy was be his flesh and blood. Thank goodness he had Hope’s love to fall back on during this tough time. Through the years, Bo and Victor eventually grew close.

Sami is executed for killing Franco.
  1. Dead Sami Brought Back To Life

Mean girl Sami Brady was one of the most spiteful and selfish characters ever to hit Salem. She repeatedly made the lives of her family members miserable and found herself on the wrong side of the law as she faced execution for Franco’s murder. In true DAYS fashion, death and life happened before our eyes. She was killed by lethal injection, but moments after being pronounced dead, former love Lucas confessed that he committed her crime, sending Sami to the ER where she was miraculously brought back to life.
