Here’s Why Fans Really Want Susan Lucci Back To Soaps!

When show creator Agnes Nixon first hired Susan Lucci as Erica Kane on All My Children, she was lauded for taking a chance on an “ethnic type.” (Nixon was inspired by the success of another ethnic type, Robin Strasser, as Rachel on Another World — she would also go on to play Dorian on One Life to Live.)

The risk definitely paid off, as Lucci created one of the most iconic characters on daytime ever to be known just for herself, and not for her romantic pairings (i.e. Luke and Laura, Bo and Hope, etc…).

She played Erica from the day the show premiered on January 5, 1970, until it went off the air on September 23, 2011. (She skipped the 2013 online revival.) Now, Lucci is set to host an AMC cast reunion on the Hallmark Channel, and fans are wondering, could she be eyeing a return to soaps?

Diva Does Daytime!
There is always room for a legend, and 68% of you could only shout “Yes!” to the possibility of Lady Lucci showing up on another show. The question is, which one should it be?

The Bold and the Beautiful could use a grand dame fashion icon — Forrester Creations is being run by a teenager in her underwear, for goodness sake!

And on The Young and the Restless, it’s been weeks since a woman has fallen for Victor (Eric Braeden), believing she could change him. Maybe, this time, she actually could?

Then again, on Days of Our Lives, Lucci could show Victor, Deimos, Dario and even Andre what it really means to manipulate.

Finally, if Todd, Blair (Kassie DePaiva), John and Starr could move from Llanview to Port Charles (and then promptly move out to return with different names), what’s to stop Erica herself from making an appearance?

Maybe the latter could work but, if not, then 32% of viewers want no part of it. For them, Lucci will only ever be Erica Kane. Accept no substitutions. (The woman is 70 years old. She doesn’t need to work anymore, does she?)
