Finola Hughes – 10 Facts You Probably did not Know!

10. A trained dancer, Hughes never thought she’d find herself in the American soap world. The British-born actress studied at the Arts Educational School in London and Hughes even danced as one of the principal cats in the original West End production of “Cats,” which eventually made its way to the U.S. and Broadway.

9. In 1983, Hughes made her acting and dancing film debut in “Staying Alive” opposite John Travolta. “Staying Alive” was the long-anticipated, but eventual flop, sequel to the 1977 hit “Saturday Night Fever.”

8. Two years later, Hughes landed the role of spy Anna Devane on “General Hospital” and brought a touch of British class to the show. She remained with “GH” until Anna was presumed dead in 1992.

7. In 1991, Hughes made a cameo appearance as herself in the feature film, “Soap Dish,” a parody starring Sally Field and Kevin Kline. She also played the lead in the film “Aspen Extreme” in 1992.

6. Hughes also spent some time in the primetime sitcom world with a regular role on the NBC show “Blossom.”

5. Hughes has been married to Russell Young since 1992 and the pair have three children together, Sadie, Cash, and Dylan.

4. Anna has followed Hughes around in between “General Hospital” stints. Anna was found to be alive in 2000, but then moved to Pine Valley and “All My Children.” She even played double duty as Anna’s twin sister Alexandra on “AMC.”

3. In 1990, Hughes was nominated for a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. A decade later, she was nominated in the same category as Alexandra.

2. In 2006, Anna and Hughes returned to “General Hospital” once again where she was reunited with co-stars Emma Samms and Tristan Rogers, as it seemed all three characters were indeed alive.

1. Hughes brought Anna to life again when she appeared on the primetime “GH” spin-off called “General Hospital: Night Shift.” After that show was cancelled, she made a semi-permanent return to the daytime version of “GH” that made her a daytime legend.
