It’s January, and no doubt soap viewers are interested in what’s coming up on The Young and the Restless, The Bold and the Beautiful, General Hospital, and Days of our Lives in the coming weeks. However, if you’re like many people, you’re also interested in making some small changes that will have a big impact on your health. Soap Hub has been lucky enough to test out a few items lately, and here are some of the best to help you get healthier and feel better in this new year.
Soap Hub may receive a commission on orders placed through retail links.
One way to improve physical and mental health is through yoga. The women on GH occasionally attend a group yoga class together at the gym, and the actors from Y&R sometimes attend classes together. Yoga can help with your balance and alignment along with so many other things.
This is where 42 Birds cork yoga mats come in. Check out their cork mat, The Robin, for an excellent start to your yoga practice. This eco-friendly yoga mat uses cork that support nature’s ecosystem. This unique feeling of cork gives you the ability to grip nicely, creating the perfect balance of cushion and traction and a non-slip surface. Durable cork yoga mats are also much lighter than rubber, which means it’s easier on your back and shoulders. Plus, you can easily to carry to yoga class (or to your living room for a home practice), and it’s antimicrobial that is suitable for all styles of yoga.
In practice, this mat was a new experience for Soap Hub‘s staff. It truly provided a great grip for holding poses. Plus, we loved that the whole thing was antimicrobial, so we didn’t have to worry about it getting too gross after we sweat on it during our workouts.
As always, consult with your physician before beginning a new exercise regimen.
While you’re getting yourself to the gym or doing a home workout, you could use some great new workout clothes. Forme has developed items that help you stay comfortable while working out while also improving your posture.
Soap Hub got to try Forme’s Sculpt+ Leggings and Forme’s Power Bra. Both items delivered on their promises. These items are pricey, but remember that you may be able to buy them with your FSA/HSA card. They also offer a discount for military, first responders, and teachers.
Forme’s Sculpt+ Leggings are designed to provide lower back support and engage your core, spine, and hip muscles—allowing you to get the most out of your workout. The patented 5-inch triple mesh high waistband engages muscle memory in the core, glutes, hamstring, and spine, and the leggings support your midsection to streamline your silhouette to improve form and posture.
However, Forme’s Power Bra is truly a marvel. The Power Bra by Forme® is an FDA-registered posture correcting bra designed to immediately improve your upper body alignment and body foundation. We worried it might be uncomfortable, but it wasn’t. This marvelous sports bra was comfortable while providing plenty of support during our workouts. Plus, it actually helped us hold a better posture without being painful in any way. The band around the bottom is especially comfortable.
Of course, if you’re headed off to the gym this new year or even going on a trip and want to carry your fitness items, the Aruna Duffel is for you. This bag is made from water-resistant nylon and crafted with care. It features a large main compartment, interior zip pockets for easy organization, and an adjustable, removable crossbody strap. We found this bag durable and absolutely convenient for packing what you need day-to-day at the gym or on a trip.
Tall and elegant, the Slim memobottle™ is the perfect water bottle to fit in your gym bag. The slender profile allows the Slim to slide comfortably into the narrowest of spaces, while its height ensures it’s always within reach. Plus, using this convenient bottle, enables you to move away from single use plastic bottles, which we really appreciated. We also love that the bottle is dishwasher safe, and that you can get a sleeve to costumize it to the color you want.
Keep Active Skin Repair in your gym bag and spray it on your face after a workout to prevent breakouts. Active Skin Repair is FDA-approved for open skin. Active Skin Repair is a 6-in-1 clean beauty product that heals and prevents acne and eczema. It also works to heal cuts, rashes, chafing, and more, making it a must-have for our gym bag.
The secret of this little beauty in its active ingredient—hypochlorous acid, or HOCl, which our body’s white blood cells produce to heal injuries. It helped us with minor skin irritations, burns, and cuts while we tried it out.
Of course, with all this new movement, you may feel some new aches and pains. That’s where Treefrog Relief Topical Gel will help. Developed in the rainforests of Costa Rica, Treefrog targets pain quickly and directly with its all natural formula. The best part is that it can be used as a preventative gel as well! Apply Treefrog before your workout to any troubled areas (knees, hips, etc.) to prevent any muscle flare-ups. It absorbs quickly and is non-greasy so it won’t rub off on the gym equipment.
We found that this formula was easy to use, and it started giving us relief almost immediately. We appreciated that it didn’t leave us smelling like a medicine cabinet either.
