Steve McFadden is a British soap opera star who is best known for playing Phil Mitchell in EastEnders for almost 30 years. Along with his work in television, McFadden enjoys performing on the stage and is the host of the fighting series, Britain’s Hardest.

From where the talented actor was born and raised to the reason he took a break from EastEnders, here are five fast facts about him.

Who Is Steve McFadden?

He was born on March 20 in Maida Vale, London. McFadden attended North London Polytechnic but decided to drop out after seven weeks. He then went to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art to pursue acting. Before his career took off, jobs he had included carrot picking, plumbing, street trading, and a barman.

Soap Career
Following a few small roles on television shows, McFadden was cast as Phil Mitchell in the soap opera EastEnders in 1990. His hard work was awarded the Outstanding Achievement Award at the 2016 British Soap Awards. He has also held onto every EastEnders script in which he has appeared.

Taking a Break
After more than 10 years on EastEnders, McFadden decided to take a break from the show to focus on pantomimes, which is a type of musical comedy theater. However, after less than two years away, McFadden returned to EastEnders for a few episodes before returning full-time in October 2005.

Man of the Sea

When McFadden is not busy acting, he loves being by the sea. He has a place in Falmouth, Cornwall, by the water. He loves to fish and sail and even took part in the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant on his motorboat, ‘Barbara.’ He also reunited with former onscreen mum, Barbara Windsor, at the celebration.

Getting Personal With Steve McFadden
The actor has a son named Matt with Sue Marshall. He then had daughters Teona and Mollie Jane with Angela Bostock. He later had another daughter, Amelie Tinkerbell, with Rachel Sidwell. He then had his fifth child, daughter Frankie, with girlfriend Karen Cairns in June 2016. He also had a relationship with former EastEnders co-star Lucy Benjamin.
