Beverley Callard is a British actress who is best known for playing Liz McDonald on Coronation Street on-and-off for 30 years.

Along with her acting career, Callard has pursued other opportunities that have kept her very busy over the years. From where she was born and raised to her mental health struggle, here are five fast facts about the actress.

Who Is Beverley Callard?

Callard was born on March 28 in Morley, West Riding of Yorkshire, England. She grew up with her younger sister Stephanie and attended Elmfield and Peel Street schools. She also went to Bruntcliffe High School.

Soap Career
Callard first appeared on Coronation Street as June Dewhurst, but she ended up returning to the show five years later as her new character, Liz McDonald. However, after nearly 10 years on the show, Callard left the role. She ended up returning again in 2003 and has been a part of the show on-and-off for about 15 years. Callard announced she’s leaving the show for good in November 2019 and her final scenes will air during the summer of 2020.

Fitness Career
Along with acting, Callard is also passionate about fitness. She has released a number of exercise videos, including Real Results, Rapid Results, and Lasting Results, and she has also appeared on morning shows promoting her new lifestyle. She also had a fitness page in the British newspaper, Daily Mirror.

Mental Health Quest

Callard has been open about her struggles with depression and has revealed she believes it began back in 2009 due to menopause. Though she kept working on Coronation Street, she knew she didn’t feel right. She ended up taking a break from the show in order to focus on her mental health and has found ways to keep her depression at bay.

She married Paul Atkinson when she was just 16. Callard was pregnant with their child when they tied the knot, but she later miscarried. She had their daughter, Rebecca, in 1975, but the couple divorced in 1978.

She went on to marry David Sowden in 1980 and had an abortion during their marriage. They split amicably in 1988. The actress became pregnant in 1989 with Steve Callard’s child, and they got married. She welcomed their son, Josh, in 1990 but they split in 2001. Callard now lives with her fourth husband, Jon McEwan, whom she married in October of 2010.
