Liam Spencer was torn for years between Hope Logan and Steffy Forrester on The Bold and the Beautiful. Complicating matters was the fact that Liam shares a child with each woman; he fathered Kelly with Steffy, and he is dad to Hope’s daughter Beth. Scott Clifton recently chatted about viewers sensing he favors one daughter over the other.
Scott Clifton – Father of the Year
Clifton, along with co-star Matthew Atkinson (Thomas), appeared on an episode of BOLD LIVE, B&B’s in-house talk show hosted by Supervising Producer Casey Kasprzyk. One caller pointed out to Clifton that he lumped his feelings about getting Steffy pregnant during their one-night stand after he saw Thomas kissing Hope (actually, the Hope mannequin) with his and Steffy’s daughter Kelly. The B&B viewer pointed out that Kelly was conceived when Liam and Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) were married — not exactly the same circumstances as when Liam and Steffy turned on the #Steam heat again.
Not Without His Daughter
“You’re not the first person to say that,” Clifton responded when it was pointed out that Liam came off as regarding Kelly as a mistake. “I don’t know [when] the scene that you’re talking about [took place].” One thing Clifton does know is that Liam doesn’t have any regrets about Kelly. “I can tell you this,” he says. “Our writers do not want Liam to come across that way.”
The three-time Daytime Emmy winner suggests that he may have ad-libbed or misspoken a line that conveyed an attitude on Liam’s part that the viewers interpreted. “I can certainly tell you that I’m not playing anything [where] Liam has antipathy to Kelly or that he regrets [having her]. We do so many episodes a year, it’s entirely possible that that was a mistake by me, the actor. That’s all I can think of.”

Scott Clifton – It’s Complicated
And while Kelly was indeed conceived when Liam and Steffy were married, let’s not forget that there was drama in the marriage around the time of her conception. Liam and Steffy were at odds over his sharing a kiss with Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope) after they were trapped in a cave-in at Spectra Fashions, courtesy of Liam’s dad Bill Spencer (Don Diamont). Speaking of Bill, Steffy, believing her marriage was over, had a one-night fling with her father-in-law, and for a time, Steffy was unsure who the dad was.
In fact, Bill was seen at the hospital around the time Steffy went in for a paternity test. Was he paying someone off to switch the results? If B&B ever goes down this path and Liam were to learn that he’s not Kelly’s dad, he’d be devastated. Because, as Clifton pointed out, Liam loves his daughter very, very much.
