While some performers will do background (or “extra”) work in show business while they’re attempting to get speaking parts, veteran soap star Rena Sofer actually had a non-credited gig long after her career was established. There’s a very special reason she took the part even though it didn’t have any lines.

Rena Sofer – A Treasured Moment

“My hubby @sbookstaver was directing an episode of @officialbones (Bones) on Fox and he needed some extras for a scene about a bad doctor who may have messed with a bunch of people so, a teen, an elderly man, and a child needed to be tested,” Sofer, who currently plays Quinn on Bold and the Beautiful, explained on Instagram.

“He had the brilliant idea to get my older daughter @msidney [Meghann Kurth] to play the teen,” Sofer shares. “My father, to play the elderly man and my daughter, @rosabelrosalind [Rosabel Rosalind Kurth] to play the child with her mother (ME) helping her up [onto a table].” The Kurth in their last names of course references Wally Kurth (Justin, Days of our Lives; Ned, General Hospital), Sofer’s ex-husband whom she met when she originated the role of Lois on GH.

Check out the video below and see how Bookstaver directed the segment with Sofer’s loved ones. Having this treasured moment as a part of TV history means a great deal to the actress, whose hair was short when the scene was filmed. “Now we have an amazing time capsule of all five of us in a moment in time that is priceless,” the BB star adds. “Sandy just remembered the footage. It’s so dear to me because we lost my dad in 2011. To look back on that is incredible!! Thank you my love for bringing it back out! Xoxo enjoy!!”

Bookstaver’s recent directing credits include an episode of Helstrom, numerous episodes of Chicago Fire and Power. The series Bones starred David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel as, respectively, FBI Special Agent Seeley Booth and Dr. Temperance “Bones” Brennan. Bones ran for 12 seasons from 2005 to 2017.
