The soap opera ratings report for the week ending September 18 show ranking reverting back to their pre-pandemic state.
Soap Opera Ratings Race
The industry entered unprecedented territory this spring and summer when three out of the four soaps aired reruns because of a production shutdown due to the coronavirus. Now, ratings can be judged on a more even keel.
In the coveted Women 18-49 demographic, The Young and the Restless was No. 1 with a .39. General Hospital came in second with .37. The Bold and the Beautiful was in third place with .36. Days of our Lives was fourth with .34.
In households, YR placed first with 2.13. BB was second with 1.92. GH was third with 1.43. DAYS was fourth with 1.24. Each ratings point translates into 1.210 million viewers so, that means YR had 2.6 million viewers; BB had 2.3 million viewers; GH had 1.7 million viewers; and DAYS had 1.5 million viewers.
What stories were drawing in viewers last week? On YR, Sharon (Sharon Case) learned that her cancer had spread. While Rey (Jordi Vilasuso) assured his love that everything would be all right, Sharon later turned to Adam (Mark Grossman) for support. Lola (Sasha Calle) was sad that Theo (Tyler Johnson) was late for their date. Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) planted a bug at ChancComm to find out what dirt Billy (Jason Thompson) has on Adam.
On BB, Liam (Scott Clifton) and Thomas (Matthew Atkinson) argued over Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood). Hope (Annika Noelle) and Liam disagreed on whether Finn’s (Tanner Novlan) effect on Steffy was a positive one.
Over at GH, Jason (Steve Burton) let Sam (Kelly Monaco) know that Taggert (Réal Andrews) was really alive. Anna (Finola Hughes) received a call from her twin, Alex. Brando (Johnny Wactor) got beat up. Jason assured Sam that Brando was a good guy.
Finally, on DAYS, in a shocking move, Sami (Alison Sweeney) was awarded custody of her grandson! Ben (Robert Scott Wilson) dreamed of a happy life with Ciara (Victoria Konefal). John (Drake Hogestyn), now out of his coma, was furious with Samantha!
General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC. The Bold and the Beautiful and The Young and the Restless both air weekdays on CBS. Days of Our Lives airs weekdays on NBC. Check local listings for air times.
