This weekend marks the initial Soap Hub Performer of the Week, a new ongoing series that pays tribute to a show’s outstanding actor. For The Bold and the Beautiful, the inaugural choice is three-time Daytime Emmy winner Scott Clifton, whose character Liam Spencer is between a rock and a hard place as he tries to wrap his head around the fact that his ex-wife, Steffy, is dating her handsome doctor, Finn (Tanner Novlan).

Performer of the Week: Scott Clifton

Over the course of Clifton’s career, he’s shown that he can deliver both deft comedy and heartfelt drama. Last week, the actor was charged with bringing to life Liam’s increased concerns about Steffy’s (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) welfare while trying not to alienate anyone, given the sensitive dynamics. While she has made marked improvement since becoming addicted to opioids, there’s always the chance of relapse, so on one hand, Liam’s concerns are valid.

On the other hand, he’s coming off, to some, like a man who can’t stand to see his ex move on with another partner. However, that began to change when Liam informed Thomas (Matthew Atkinson) and Hope (Annika Noelle) that Finn (Tanner Novlan) had informed Kelly’s sitter it was okay to bring her over to Steffy’s home so they could be reunited. Still, Thomas and Hope are too concerned with their own agendas to fully put themselves in Liam’s shoes.

Scott Clifton plays Liam’s feeling anxious over the situation, but at the same time, the character tries to hide it as he’s conscious of Steffy’s fragile condition and his daughter’s welfare being at stake. Still, once Steffy left the room to check on Kelly, Liam raised his concerns — and his intensity — to Finn, pointing out that he’s not going to stop looking out for his ex.

“If you have a problem with that, find another patient to date,” Liam asserted. Battle lines drawn! We’re not so sure that Liam’s correct in blaming Finn for Steffy’s addiction, however. It was, after all, Steffy getting the second round of opioids from Vinny (Joe LoCicero) that caused her to get addicted, and initially, Finn knew nothing about that. And Finn did end his doctor/patient relationship with Steffy before informing her that he wanted to date her.

However, Finn himself gave weight to Liam’s concerns by making a surprise re-entrance, saying he’d forgotten his phone, catching Liam in mid-conversation about objecting to Finn being in Steffy’s life. Liam informed Finn that his gut has a good track record so far and that there is something about him that Liam just doesn’t trust!

By week’s end, Liam faced another challenge — Hope asking him if he was simply jealous of Finn. Time will tell if Liam’s instincts are correct or not. Either way, we’ve no doubt Clifton will continue to deliver must-see performances! The Bold and the Beautiful airs weekdays on CBS. Check local listings for air times.
