Jacqueline MacInnes Wood reminded viewers of The Bold and the Beautiful earlier this year that she has the dramatic chops to take on a powerful story like opioid addiction and hit it out of the park.
Jacqueline MacInnes Wood — Performer of the Week
This past week, Steffy’s story called for Wood to be both strong and subtle. She delivered on both, earning Soap Hub’s BB Performer of the Week honors in the process.
Steffy and ex-husband Liam (Scott Clifton) dealt with the realization that Hope (Annika Noelle) had not been unfaithful with Thomas (Matthew Atkinson). The reality was Thomas was kissing the Hope mannequin, but before Liam discovered this, he commiserated with Steffy. The pair started drinking, and one thing led to another. The exes wound up in the sack together.
After the truth came out (that Hope had not been unfaithful), Liam, understandably, wanted to come clean with Hope. Steffy was charged with urging Liam not to throw away his marriage; she pointed out that their night of lovemaking could also sink her developing romance with Finn (Tanner Novlan).
Wood balanced Steffy knowing she needed to be logical, but also still feeling the emotions she has for her ex. Of course, her night with Liam meant something to her, too, and she didn’t mean to dismiss that, but she couldn’t afford to join Liam in confessing any remorse. The stakes were just too high.
Rather than use the fact that they reconnected as an argument that Liam should leave Hope, Steffy kept her eye on the prize; for her, that’s Finn. And for Liam, it’s Hope. She felt it was best he forget their night of intimacy.
Next, Steffy had to keep her guard up with Finn when he came over to see her. She would have preferred Finn not rehash the recent disconnect between Liam and Hope as he logically surmised that Liam had a reaction to “Hope” and Thomas’s smooch.
Steffy knew it would have looked suspicious if she changed the subject, so she played along with Finn’s line of questioning, hoping he wouldn’t take it too far – or start to guess what happened. Wood played the fine line of Steffy keeping her cool on the outside while fearing her world could fall apart on the inside.
Kudos to Jacqueline MacInnes Wood for always delivering the drama whether Steffy is fighting a demon or “simply” being the pragmatic leader that we know and love her to be. The Bold and the Beautiful airs weekdays on CBS. Check local listings for air times.
