Soap stars don’t always watch their own work, but we know that at least one actor’s mom does. Scott Clifton, who plays Liam on The Bold and the Beautiful, recently shared his mother’s reaction to the latest plot twist on the half-hour soap!
Scott Clifton And Family On Liam’s Latest Blunder
Clifton’s mom, Faye Snyder, called up her son’s cell phone and left a voicemail message, having seen the scene in which Hope (Annika Noelle) explained that Liam saw the Hope mannequin (and not Hope) kissing Thomas. This means that Liam — not Hope — betrayed their marriage vows. You can listen to the message by clicking on the tweet below.
Well, it’s not really so much a message as it is about 60 seconds of Snyder, a psychologist, chuckling over Liam’s reaction to learning that he mistook the mannequin for the real thing!
“The expression on your face…” laughed Clifton’s mom, letting out a tiny snort worth of Grace Adler as she tried to compose herself. “I, uh… I guess I thought I was filming a dramatic scene, but… thanks? #motherknowsbest,” Clifton posted in response.
“You have to keep that forever!!!!” tweeted Clifton’s former co-star and ex-on-screen love interest, Adrienne Frantz (Amber). Added The Bold and the Beautiful scribe Michele Val Jean: “OMG this is priceless!” Other BB actors including Katherine Kelly Lang (Brooke) and Lawrence Saint-Victor (Carter) also posted reactions.
Not all the posts have been supportive and/or displayed humor. Scott Clifton has responded to Liam’s various and passionate critics on social media, countering that he’s doing his job by bringing the script to life as Liam responds emotionally to situations he’s presented with. (And haven’t we all done that?)
“For the record: OF COURSE I want to choke Liam as much as y’all do…But my job is to find a way to motivate and humanize Liam’s choices,” notes Clifton, pointing out that “humanizing” them does not mean “justifying” them. “I can’t change the story our writers want to tell; I can only try my best to make it evocative and real.”
The actor was touched by the support he’s received via social media. “I did not expect the cascade of encouragement and kindness that would follow from this. I promise I was neither fishing for compliments nor asking to be defended, but I’m so grateful for all of you nonetheless. 🙏🏼,” Clifton tweeted.
The actor not only has fan support (and his mom’s, too!), but also encouragement from Forrester family patriarch John McCook (Eric). “NO ONE could play Liam as well and as believably as Scott…I think he could rise to any challenge…” McCook tweeted. Clifton, touched by the support, responded: “I’d throw out all my Emmys if I could put this tweet on my bookshelf instead.”
So, how’s Liam going to handle things now that he knows that Hope wasn’t unfaithful — and he, in fact, was? Stay tuned to find out! The Bold and the Beautiful airs weekdays on CBS. Check local listings for airtimes.

For the record: OF COURSE I want to choke Liam as much as y’all do. He’s become a terrible person.
But my job is to find a way to motivate and humanize Liam’s choices. I can’t change the story our writers want to tell; I can only try my best to make it evocative and real. ❤️
