Ridge Forrester, played by Thorsten Kaye, has put his trust in his wife Brooke Logan time after time on The Bold and the Beautiful. Now, he’s faced with the reality that that trust has been misplaced. For his role as a family man in conflict, Soap Hub bestows Performer of the Week for B&B honors upon Kaye.
Thorsten Kaye – Performer of the Week
Ridge (Thorsten Kaye) is a man who is confident in how he handles his family. He knows what’s best for everyone including his son Thomas Forrester (Matthew Atkinson) and his grandson Douglas Forrester (Django Ferri). So, when two reps from Child Protective Services showed up at the Forrester mansion having been tipped off by someone, Ridge was hesitant to let them inside his family’s home. Douglas, after all, is doing perfectly fine.
Thomas allowed the CPS agents in and after a quick interview with the youngster, they were satisfied. “My son is a good father so there’s nothing to worry about here,” an incredulous and frustrated Ridge informed the CPS reps. After they departed, Ridge insisted that whoever summoned CPS to the estate had made a big mistake.
While Thomas had the most to lose in all this, it was Ridge (Thorsten Kaye) whose exasperation grew. He couldn’t believe that Thomas and Douglas were questioned. Ridge wanted to contact Carter Walton (Lawrence Saint-Victor) for legal aid. Then, Ridge flash-backed to Brooke saying that she’d call CPS if she had to in order to keep Douglas safe.
Ridge called Brooke and informed her of the agency’s visit. “I gotta ask you something,” Ridge said to his beloved Logan. “Did you do this? Did you call Child Services on my son?” Thorsten Kaye played Ridge’s agony as he made the inquiry. The last thing he wanted to believe was that Brooke would do something so unnecessary.
“Dad, she did it,” Thomas calmly told Ridge while he was still on the line with his wife trying to get an answer. “Ridge, it wasn’t me,” Brooke insisted. She understood that Ridge had to ask but that didn’t calm Ridge down entirely. He was still anxious over the CPS visit.
Ridge apologized to Thomas after an outburst, telling him that he shouldn’t be angry at him. (Or should he be? Stay tuned.) Thomas reminded his dad that Walter Barnes (Steve Richard Harris), a former Forrester Creations employee, has a new job that has connections at CPS.
Walter hightailed it over to the manse where Ridge asked him to help them undercover the name of the person who ratted out Thomas to CPS. Walter faced an understandable dilemma as this was placing his position in jeopardy but Ridge (Thorsten Kaye) was not to be denied. He needed to know who was trying to tear apart his family!
Even though he faced losing his license and his livelihood, Walter caved and decided to risk everything in order to help his friends and past employers. He called up the recording of the phone call that alerted CPS to Douglas being in danger.
Ridge was in shock upon hearing what appeared to be Brooke’s voice placing the call of concern to CPS. “Logan,” he uttered filling that one word with pain and a sense of betrayal.
Christmas had come early for Thomas. He took this newly discovered information and told his dad what he already knew – that his wife was trying to take away his son. In denial, Ridge asked Walter a second time to play the recording. Ridge let the words wash over him and walked away, gazing off the living room balcony as he tried to accept that his wife not only betrayed his son but then also lied about it.
Ridge said it made no sense for Brooke to do this but there was Thomas telling him that she would do it if she had to. “She lied,” Thomas said to Ridge when he said Brooke denied making the call. “She wouldn’t lie to me,” Ridge said repeating the line as if he was trying to convince himself of that fact.
Suddenly, Ridge had to take on more emotional angst after learning that his ex-wife and mother of his children Taylor Hayes (Krista Allen) was contemplating leaving town. Thomas took advantage of Ridge being in a vulnerable state over his wife, noting that Brooke lies and betrays Ridge as she did with Eric Forrester (John McCook) and brother Thorne Forrester (Winsor Harmon). Thomas added to his argument that Brooke doesn’t care about Ridge by reminding him that she was the one who called CPS.
As Ridge is a man of action and a man who cares about his family, he is finding himself in a very tough position. The enormity of his wife’s betrayal is weighing heavily upon him. This story twist has thrust Thorsten Kaye and his character into a challenging place. We look forward to seeing what the actor will do next as it appears Ridge is facing a significant crossroad.
