A Critic’s Review Of The Bold and the Beautiful: Real Drama, Shaming & Hypocrisy

The author’s opinions are his and his alone. They’re suitably scathing, fairly humorous, and normally bang on target.

When it comes to The Bold and the Beautiful, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of B&B’s week that was.

The Bold and the Beautiful: The Critic Delegates-ish

Rather than voice my own opinion about the latest plot contrivance to heap yet further artificial drama onto the already near farcical “Will Hope and Thomas Or Won’t They?”, I’m going to instead share a fellow Soap Hub editor’s reaction which was posted in [then] real time to our internal “Writers Channel”, as it pretty much encapsulates every thought that danced through my head as well.

So let me get this straight, The Forresters and the Spencers both have private jets, there are trains, cabs, rental cars, etc…and these two morons can’t find a way home?

SEND. THE. SPENCER. JET.

Grab that helicopter Bill likes to use so much…like, what’s the issue?

Borrow Brooke’s broom

On top of that, is there only one hotel with only one hotel room in all of SF?

They can’t just find their own rooms in their own hotels and keep some distance?

With that out of the way, I would like to address a rather alarming trend as of late, namely the incessant slut shaming of Brooke Logan (Katherine Kelly Lang).

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not about to present a debate as to whether or not her “Slut From The Valley” moniker was earned — though if you Bold and the Beautiful devotees would like to discuss in the comments, feel free — but it does seem to me that it would behoove the likes of Wyatt (Darin Brooks) and Liam (Scott Clifton) and Thomas (Matthew Atkinson) and Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) to remember that “those in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.”

And that goes double for Steffy who could always have her “You’re finally turning into your mother” bull turned around as “Better to turn into a slut than a lush who ran over and killed someone.” [Yea, that’s right, I still remember what Taylor did to poor Darla!]

Then again…in order for Wyatt and Liam and Thomas and Steffy to internalize their hypocrisy that would necessitate B&B head writer Brad Bell to acknowledge those characters’ histories, and we all know the chances of that actually happening.
