For years, Katherine Kelly Lang and Jacob Young played mother and son, Brooke and Rick, on The Bold and the Beautiful. The two recently reunited on Young’s podcast for some deep conversation about a variety of topics.
Katherine Kelly Lang Talks Self-Care
As Young is a champion for mental health, one of the topics he wanted to discuss with his former TV mom on Real Conversations With Jacob Young was the importance of self-care. Young can relate to the challenge that Lang and other daytime stars feel who have to muster up emotions as they play out stressful situations. It’s all fiction, but sometimes actors’ bodies and minds can’t tell the difference.
“Definitely, don’t let the day get to you,” Lang said in response to Young asking her about how she unwinds. “Some days are good, some days are bad. Not every day can be perfect. You may have a flawless day, and you think, ‘Oh, that was great.’ Those days are easier to leave behind.”
Lang added that it’s one thing to replay a scene over in your head that you did in order to help you in the future, but by no means should you beat yourself up about it after you leave the studio.
“You can allow yourself time in your dressing room to think, ‘Maybe I could have done it this way…’ But then you leave it at that,” she advises. “Change. Take your makeup off. Get in [your] car and go home.”
Lang employs some self-care by going on a long hike in the mountains. “Hearing the birds sing, [feeling] the sun on my face, the wind in my hair,” she says allows negative feelings to go away. “It’s almost a form of medication. Some people meditate or do yoga. Exercise is a good stress reliever.”
The actress says “self-care” can be something as simple as taking a bubble bath or having a glass of wine. “You need to take care of yourself,” she implores. “If you don’t, you’re not going to be able to take care of yourself or be an inspiration to others.”
