They sparred on-screen as Rick Forrester and Ridge Forrester many times but off-camera, their portrayers, respectively, Jacob Young and Ronn Moss get along just swell. Recently, Young invited Moss onto his podcast Real Conversations With Jacob Young where they discussed a variety of topics.
Ronn Moss Answers A Popular Question
Jacob Young asked his former co-star a question he said he’s sure he gets queried about often. “Brooke or Taylor,” Ronn Moss quipped, referring to the long-running leading ladies played by Katherine Kelly Lang and Hunter Tylo. “Both,” he added wryly. “Why not?”
Actually, Young wanted to know about the enduring nature of the classic song Baby Come Back that Ronn Moss performed as a member of the rock group Player. The song hit number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 and went to number ten on the R&B charts in 1978.
“The song has a very enduring hook,” Moss said noting it’s also “a strong love song of losing, losing love, and wanting it back.” The actor/singer, who played Ridge Forrester for 25 years, noted that the song’s harmonies “stick in your mind” and its quality all contribute to its enduring appeal.
Moss Talks Music With Michael Bay
“It wasn’t the only song Player released but it has endured the most,” Ronn Moss adds. “I’m very proud of that.” Baby Come Back has been used in numerous media including films (Transformers), commercials (a Toyota spot in Australia), and TV shows (The Simpsons).
“I asked [director] Michael Bay why he put it in his film Transformers,” Ronn Moss recalled. “He had the song [early] in the movie and it was used as a solidifying moment in the kids’ [Shia LaBeouf, Sam, and Megan Fox, Mikaela] relationship. It was a wonderful moment in the movie. He said, ‘Yeah, I had to have that song in that spot.'”
Moss says he’s notified when the hit tune is going to be used in a project but he’s never quite 100% sure of the context until he sees it. He says Baby Come Back also ran in a Toyota commercial that ran in Australia. “They show a guy watching his car go over a cliff,” Moss shared. “It ran for over a year.” Check out the hilarious spot below.
