When it comes to The Bold and the Beautiful, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of B&B’s week that was.
The Bold and the Beautiful: A Critic’s Week In Review
Is there anything sadder – and more infuriating – than watching two spoiled, snot-nosed thirtysomething brats whining about their mommy and daddy not being together? Yes, yes there is. It’s when all the whining being done is over revisionist history.
Here’s the thing that Steffy Forrester (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) – and yes, I’m still calling her Steffy Forrester. When The Bold and the Beautiful writers remember that she and John “Finn” Finnegan (Tanner Novlan) haven’t filed their marriage license, and have them do so, I’ll refer to her as Steffy Finnegan – and Thomas Forrester (Matthew Atkinson) don’t seem to remember: Ridge Forrester (Thorsten Kaye) ALWAYS chose their mother over Brooke Logan Forrester (Katherine Kelly Lang).
And sure, Ridge didn’t wish Brooke any amount of happiness with another partner – in fact, he was downright jelly anytime a man showed his ex a modicum of attention – but once he married Taylor Hayes (then, Hunter Tylo; now, Krista Allen) he stuck with her until she was presumed dead in a plane crash.
Yes, he married Brooke soon after – way too soon for many a Bold and Beautiful fan’s taste – but as soon as Taylor popped back up, and quoted Mark Twain (“The reports of my death blah blah blah), Ridge went running back to her.
And he stayed…until she was presumed dead a second time. And when she popped back up again, Ridge returned to her again (and it was out of love, Stephanie’s machinations notwithstanding).
The reason for the couple’s final split? Taylor got all kissy-face with a man who was decidedly not her husband, and her long-ago “death-sex” with James Warrick was exposed.
In point of fact, despite Steffy and Thomas’s claims of big bad trampy Brooke coming in and stealing their daddy, Brooke actually raised those two kids for the majority of their lives.

But it’s understandable that those two don’t see it that way. That’s the way The Bold and the Beautiful writers wrote it all those years ago, and even they can’t keep it straight.
Also, can we talk for just a minute about Taylor’s excuse for not coming home and being there for her children? She says it’s due to her lingering feelings for Ridge. But wouldn’t it make more sense to say that she stayed away because she was ashamed she pulled a Sheila Carter (Kimberlin Brown) and pumped somebody full of lead?
Further B&B Critic’s Musings
* Does it weird anyone else out that The Bold and the Beautiful’s Ridge keeps saying that Hope Logan Spencer (Annika Noelle) wants to “be” with Deacon. Language like that usually denotes a romantic or sexual attraction. I think what he means to say is that Hope wants a “familial relationship” with her father. Sure, it’s a bit clunkier, but it sounds a whole lot less icky.
* Exchange of the Week:
Deacon: Look, Sheila. Don’t take this the wrong way, but you’re not Brooke.
Sheila: No offense, but Brooke is no Sheila.
* I’ve prayed long and hard to the soap gods for a Bill Spencer (Don Diamont) sighting, and what The Bold and the Beautiful “gifts” me is two episodes worth of Bill dragging Deacon for filth without any degree of self-consciousness. First, Bill is far worse than Deacon – on pretty much anyone’s scale. Secondly, Bill aligned himself with Deacon in order to spoil Hope and Liam Spencer’s marriage.
