First, Shanice (Ernestine Johnson) had to deal with the looming presence of Dr. Nicole Dupree (Daphnee Duplaix), who was Ted’s very recent ex-wife. Ted (Keith D. Robinson) naturally had lingering feelings for her, which made it nearly impossible to want to get into anything serious with the new woman in his life. But he and Shanice learned to live with it.
What really shook up their relationship was when Shanice witnessed a close moment between Ted and Leslie (Trisha Mann-Grant) that she couldn’t live with. Leslie was a walking, talking red flag who continually insulted Shanice. And after she perceived Ted as taking Leslie’s side or rewarding her despite her bad behavior, Shanice had had it.
Then Derek (Ben Gavin) died, and Shanice has been reeling from the loss of her friend ever since. Ted wants to be there for her. He even asked Nicole to talk to Shanice and help her get through this. Naomi Continues to Support Ashley as Much as She Can
Someone else reeling from Derek’s death is Ashley (Jen Jacob). She has shut Grayson (Jordi Vilasuso) out of her life. Naomi (Arielle Prepetit) has already been there for her best friend, and she will do her best to continue supporting Ashley in her time of need. At the same time, Naomi and Derek were good friends, so she will be mourning him as well.
Unfortunately, since the former firefighter died, she still hasn’t had much time to reconnect with Jacob (Jibre Hordges). Hopefully, that will happen soon. In other somewhat related news, Ashley’s mother, Jan (Jerri Tubbs), will have an important conversation with Mona (Karan Kenrick). Mona has a health update for Jan. Is this about her own health? Or someone else’s?
Leslie the Press Conference Crasher
It’s natural for Leslie to be freaking out after she hears about what happened at the warehouse. Derek, who was the general manager at her free clinic, is dead. And it all had to do with the plasma ring that just went up in smoke. Grayson, under Lia’s (Cecelia Specht) orders, was trying to fold the free clinic into the plasma ring operation.
And so Leslie has to be concerned that this investigation could cause issues for the clinic or even taint the good thing she has going on there. As a result, she crashes Gardland’s press conference. How much trouble is Leslie about to cause?
The Inevitable Father/Son Talk
Finally, Martin (Brandon Claybon) has to set a few things straight with his son, Tyrell (Jaden Lucas Miller). The teen slipped away in the middle of the debutante ball (find out our thoughts on the social event of the season) to be alone with Jessica (Camryn Jade). And he missed his sister’s big moment when she was crowned Platinum Deb. Martin probably wants to talk to Tyrell about his insensitivity.
But they might also talk about things that are more personal to Tyrell, considering he and Jessica had sex after they left the cotillion. In BTG’s weekly video preview, Martin tells his son that he can talk to him about anything. And Tyrell responds, “Even sex?” So look for this conversation to get serious.
