Monday, February 23 – Episode #235
Anita’s decision to go public with her cancer diagnosis put her in front of special guest star Gayle King. After Anita (Tamara Tunie) discussed things with her daughters, she flew to New York, where she sat down with Gayle, who asked her questions about her cancer journey. Anita talked about what it was like to first get the diagnosis, what it meant for her to have her family’s support. And she made sure to get the word out about her particular diagnosis, triple-negative breast cancer.
Meanwhile, back in Fairmont Crest, an unhoused individual known as Sledge Hammer (Jahmone Duhaney) was tagged for the crime—Lynette (Dominique Madison) and Hayley (Marquita Goings) ID’d him at the precinct. When June (Jasmine Burke) heard about this at Orphey Gene’s, she told Joey (Jon Lindstrom), who happened to be there, that her friend would never turn to violence. That he was the sweetest man despite his rough nickname.
Also, Samantha (Najah Jackson) struggled to balance life and school. She had too much on her plate and was worried about her grandmother. Joey pulled some strings and orchestrated an escape of sorts. He arranged for Sledge Hammer’s release, gave him some money, and told him to get out of town. Because if he stayed, he would be railroaded for something he didn’t do. The guy stopped by Orphey Gene’s to thank June and said goodbye. Bill (Timon Kyle Durrett) got a call from Police Chief Elon Hawthorne (Malachi Malik). Bill learned that Wesley “Sledge” Hammer was released from jail. Obviously, he didn’t like the news, and Hayley pretended she was just as enraged as Bill.
At Uptown, Kat (Colby Muhammad) had a proposition for Tomas (Alex Alegria). She suggested they move in, but ultimately Tomas didn’t think she wanted to do it for the right reasons, so he turned her down. At the country club, Vanessa (Lauren Buglioli) talked to Donnell (Alex Cheeks), who decided to escort Samantha to the upcoming Cotillon. Later, he met Samantha at Orphey Gene’s, where he helped her one-up Chessie (Madison Alsobrook). Samantha appreciated his help. Additionally, Vanessa freaked out when she found out her daughter, Deanna, was about to go on a date through the Heart Attach escort service app she runs. As a result, she figured out how to sneakily get her daughter out of it.
Wednesday, February 25 – Episode #237
Eva (Ambyr Michelle) and Leslie (Trisha Mann-Grant) locked horns over the clinic. Eva was there to use her management experience to help her mom for free. But Leslie begged her daughter to quit her dad’s practice to work at the free clinic. It didn’t work. But Derek (Ben Gavin) decided to take the job of General Manager of the clinic, provided he reported to Eva and didn’t have to interact much with Leslie. While undercover, Jacob ran into Izaiah (Lami).
But his brother said he was in the neighborhood to get lunch at a restaurant he loved. Jacob made Izaiah promise not to tell Naomi that he’d seen him in undercover mode. Ashley (Jen Jacob) and Shanice (Ernestine Johnson) took a trip down memory lane on Ashley’s work anniversary. It had been one year, and they discussed how things had changed and how far they’d come. For example, Ashley’s no longer with Derek. And Shanice is with Ted.
Thursday, February 26 – Episode #238
Anita’s televised interview about her cancer diagnosis aired on CBS Mornings, and it turned into a citywide call to action. Anita saw the impact her words had on her fans and others who watched the interview. They saw it on social media. And it had the effect she intended. Meanwhile, Leslie was tired of the Duprees getting all the attention, and she decided to get the word out about her free clinic, which is opening soon.
She stopped by Vernon (Clifton Davis) and Anita’s table at the country club. And she even paid a visit to Dani and Andre’s (Sean Freeman) house, where they couldn’t help. Elsewhere, Nicole (Daphnée Duplaix), Laura (Destiny Love), and Kat talked about Laura’s accident. It’s been almost a year since it happened. Laura had a new attitude about the whole thing. But Kat didn’t. She was as hot about it as when she first started her crusade against Leslie. Later, she stopped by Orphey Gene’s right when Leslie was promoting the clinic. Kat interrupted the recording. And the three started to get into it.
Friday, February 27 – Episode #239
After Nicole snapped at Ted, she collected herself, and they had a sit-down conversation about their daughter and how worried they are for Kat. Because she was still living in the pain of what happened to their family and what Leslie did when she decided to blow up their lives. They’re glad they’re at the point where they can talk to each other like this. Just co-parent and be friendly. At the country club, Smitty (Mike Manning) caught up with an old friend of his and Martin — Dr. Monica McCormick (Iona Morris Jackson), an oncologist in Texas.
Smitty introduced Monica to Naomi, who happened to be at the club. While Smitty was off taking a call, Naomi talked to Monica about Anita’s cancer diagnosis and how cancer could impact the family of the cancer patient. Kat’s fight with Leslie and Eva was short but not so sweet. And then two seconds later, she got into another fight — this one with Chelsea. The fight ended when Kat told her she wasn’t just moving out. She was moving out now. And she left with Vanessa, to see potential places to live.
Meanwhile, Eva, Leslie, and Izaiah spent quality time together. Afterward, Leslie headed to Ted’s office and told him he needed to show interest in Izaiah, since Izaiah had Eva’s heart. So he called up Eva and arranged for a get-together with his daughter’s new boyfriend.
