This week on Beyond the Gates, new episodes return with a bang. As much as we’re anticipating the Leslie and Hayley meeting of the (mischievous) minds, other moments are also proving intriguing.
Jacob’s Sudden Recall
One of the interesting side elements of this Martin (Brandon Claybon) mystery is how there’s a stake in it for Jacob (Jibre Hordges), too. All he knows right now is that his father may be wrapped up in Malone’s (Darryl W. Handy) shady dealings with Joey Armstrong (Jon Lindstrom) and that Malone’s financials aren’t adding up. Jacob and Smitty (Mike Manning) have teamed up to track down the truth.
This week, the investigative reporter and the cop compare notes, and it unearths a startling memory for Jacob. Does the memory he recalls have anything to do with what happened two years ago? And does whatever he remembers have anything to do with his dad? Understandably, Jacob is afraid of what he’s going to find out about Elon (Malachi Malik). He has his dad high up on a pedestal, and this whole mystery threatens to knock the chief of police off that pedestal.

Awkward For All Involved
This week’s video preview features Dani’s (Karla Mosley) burst of anger after spying Ashley (Jen Jacob) and Andre (Sean Freeman) out on their date at Uptown. What that preview didn’t show is that Ashley and Andre also have an awkward encounter wth Derek (Ben Gavin) during their night out.
Derek is already bitter after Ashley couldn’t say yes to the dress or his proposal. He broke up with her because he wanted more, and she couldn’t give it to him. Heck, she couldn’t even live with him for longer than two seconds. How awkward will this encounter get?

A Rocky Reunion Rehearsal
Finally, we have been missing Anita (Tamara Tunie) while she has been in Chicago rehearsing with The Articulettes. Well, at the end of this week, the show checks in with the former girl group who are doing their best to make a comeback. Unfortunately, the news isn’t good.
According to the teasers, The Articulettes are at odds, which could derail their reunion concert. What will it take for Anita, Tracy (Maria Howell), and Sharon (Bonita Brisker) to be able to move beyond their decades-long resentments? Maybe Vernon (Clifton Davis) needs to schedule a visit to Chitown. He’s good at mediating and bringing people together.
