Deanna Doesn’t Give Her Mother or Joey a Pass
Fairley may have only appeared in four episodes in May, but she made the most of the time and the material. Before this month, her character caused drama for Vanessa (Lauren Buglioli), who grieved her late husband, Doug (Jason Graham). But she also managed to quickly move on with Joey Armstrong (Jon Lindstrom). He made her happier than she had been in a long time. However, Deanna wasn’t a fan of the relationship. If her mom had moved on with the shady businessman after Doug died, she may have accepted them. But in her heart, she knew that Vanessa and Joey had started their affair while her dad was still alive. And Deanna kept hounding Vanessa and Joey for confirmation.
Deanna Shines at the Cotillion
In May, we saw Deanna when she surprised her mother and everyone by making her entrance at the Cotillion. Deanna was tasked with announcing the new Platinum Deb winner. She looked stunning, and it was clear she belonged there. After all, she had once been a Platinum Deb herself. But she handled the name mix-up beautifully. At the end of the ball, she tried to reach out to her mother. She asked her if she wanted to get ice cream. That was a huge step for her. Unfortunately. It didn’t happen after the news of the warehouse trouble broke. Fairley’s an extremely expressiive actress. You never have to guess what’s going on with her character.
Deanna’s Mental Health Could Be at Risk
What really impressed us about Fairley happened in the episode Deanna wandered into an isolated hallway at the country club. It was there she encountered what looked like her father, Doug. This was beyond significant because we had never seen Doug and Deanna interact before and it was clear she was a daddy’s girl. Unfortunately, we didn’t meet Deanna until after her father died so we never got to see how the two of them gelled. But we got a sense of it here. This Ghost Doug told her everything she wanted to hear. And he didn’t even lay much of the blame on Vanessa. It was all about getting Joey out of her mom’s life. For a second, she looked away and when she looked back he was gone. The conversation was all in her mind.
Fairley’s Future
At the end of the episode, Deanna went back to the hallway to find her dad even though deep down she knew he wasn’t real. She told him how much she needed him. But he wasn’t there. It was crushing to see her in so much pain. But this could be the beginning of a mental health storyline for Deanna, and we are here for it (we know she has been in therapy for a while now). We would love to see more of Fairley and Deanna in the future. Because the actress is talented, tough, and her character is extremely watchable and relatable.
